The hurricane that will hit Cozumel today is very bad. Please keep them in your prayers and good thoughts. We have MANY friends in Cozumel and we need them and their families to remain safe and sound.

Fingers crossed that Rina passes over Cozumel quickly and with minimal damage to the people and their property! No repeat of Wilma, please!!!

Praying that Rina continues to weaken and everyone is safe.
Rina has been downgraded to a Tropical Storm, but the winds are still so strong. I'm sure the buildings there are still not as good as what we have in the US. What's concerning me is how slow it is moving, which can cause just as much damage as a hurricane, AND when it passes the Yucatan, it's headed back south again. They don't need more rain

This is a unique storm in that the track doubles back on itself. So it may be just a TS right now, but it is going to hit them twice.

From Weather Undergound-- "So far this morning, winds at Cozumel have been under 15 mph, and the island had picked up 0.35" of rainfall as of 10 am EDT. Damage from Rina to Cozumel and Cancun should be minor, and I expect the hotels there will be open for business this weekend."

It barely affected us here in Belize, though everyone took the threat seriously and hundreds of people evacuated. Let's hope they don't find their houses ransacked when they return. Suggestions that the storm may turn south are disturbing though. Ambergris Caye was devastated 11 years ago when Hurricane Keith did just that - no electricity or piped water for 8 weeks!

Well latest reports having it make landfall with wind speeds of less than 50 MPH. Turned into a false alarm. Should be uncomfortable but damage won't be too bad.
