You are aware that the definition of a boat is a hole in the water in which one pours money, right?

Are you planning on putting a Hastet compressor on board then? The Egyptians I know swear by them.

What sort of hull? SWACAT terracotta or are you thinking strictly wood?

When I learned to sail also learned that the best way to get a boat is to rent one by the day unless you will be using it to make money. It is far cheaper and easier to rent by the day since it typically will just sit in the slip or the yard. That is the best advice I can give for the non-independently wealthy.

I agree - charter one first to see what the issues are. The sort of boat you'd want for a week at sea will be VERY expensive, and you'll need crew.
