A diver will have some amount of dissolved N2 in his/her blood and other tissues after diving, and a hot shower or hot tub will warm the blood and tissue enough to accelearate the N2 coming out of solution to form bubbles - not something you want in your bloodstream.
Like a beer or soft drink with dissolve CO2. The warmer the liquid, the more easily it is for the gas to come out of solution. Also avoid excercise after diving, as that's like shaking the beverage.
Yeah I know: I've been branded a non-group person - doesn't play well with others. I am so upset. Let me know if you want to have some fun, without the drama - I'm good for that.

It's a risk only for people who get cold, Bill. Doesn't apply to you.Shower? You guys actually shower after diving? Heck, I'm too busy watching my "dailies" (video footage).
Seriously, I hadn't realized this. Thanks Walter for the information.

And it was tempting for me when I dived Calf waters. BRRR!

BTW Walter...speaking of hot liquids...I finally kicked the coffee habit! And yet I'm still cheerful in the morning...looks like I didn't need the stuff after all.

Drinking hot non-diuretics is fine. DeCaf, Hot Chocolate, Hot Cider. I always take a metal thermos or two on dive trips. Helps a lot when chilled. What about drinking hot liguids after diving? Is that bad, too?

On my first dive trip 3 years ago, I got busted for carrying DeCaf and Kahlua in my thermos. Well, I might still carry it in the little one, for after the last dive.

I can see where an Arkansas hillybilly wouldn't know much about hot showers
Your right Dandy
Last time I had a Hot Shower ? you need electricity or gas for those.
Utility Companies dont recognize Arkansas as a place they can make money.
So I dont see what all the rage is about hot showers ( There Exspensive)
But I do hope people take this post seriously

I feel stupid asking this but ... what does that mean?A friend of mine just informed me that she got Bent after she went diving. she came up slow , 3 min safety stop at 15 ft. everything was alright till she got back to her room and took a HOT Shower.

The only stupid question is the one not asked! The term "Bent" is the diving slang term for "DCS" or Decompression Sickness. Why its called getting 'bent' I'm not sure but I'm sure our diving guru's can answer that one for ALL of us!I feel stupid asking this but ... what does that mean?A friend of mine just informed me that she got Bent after she went diving. she came up slow , 3 min safety stop at 15 ft. everything was alright till she got back to her room and took a HOT Shower.
Good question Charity! -ww

Oh, don't think that way. Padi's NDL for 50 feet on Air is 80 minutes, and that's not a guarantee. Not difficult to exceed with a larger tank.how deep did she go?? i am assuming about a 100ft, thats why its safer to take a couple smaller safety stops along the way.
Your computer will give you an estimate of your N2 load when you come out of the water, or even some time later. But it is tempting to hit a hot shower or tub if available right after coming out of the water if you're chilled. I did it once after an extended training dive in Balhorhea, but the max depth there is 20 feet. My Pelagic gives me a NDL of nearly 10 hours at that depth, but I think the NOAA manual says it's indefinent.
I think you'll find the Athens hot tub a non risk. Always go to bed early and sober on any other dive trip, though - even if no one else does!
Now, AGE is possilbe from 3 feet! Never hold your breath.

I always thought it came from finding miners and bridge builders "bent" over in pain after coming from a pressurize lock without a slow decom?

how deep did she go??
Lori told me she went to 80 ft then the group swam slowly to 70, 60, 50, 40, then a slow rise to 15 ft for a safety stop. looking back she said its possible that she didn't drink much water in the days before the accident?. the whole thing kinda spooked her about diving and the 5 hr chamber ride didn't help matters either. lets face it we have chosen a sport that takes mental and physical thought.
Dont forget the basic rules
Happy and safe diving everyone.

I'm wondering about the length/temperature of the shower - like the boats that have fresh hot water showers and encourage you to rinse off?
