Can anyone recommend a dive op in Playa del Carmen? Have a last minute trip down there next week, don't want to go over to Coz. Am staying at El Dorado Royale which is a short cab ride to PDC. Thought I'd do a few ocean dives and maybe a cenote. Have read a lot of different things. Thought I'd ask here. Any suggestions appreciated! - TCDamsel

Can't speak for Tulum, as although I've been there I've never dived there. My choice in either Playa or Cozumel would be Protec, as being by far the most professional operator there. They do a lot of technical and cave training all the way up to Instructor Trainer level, and they are the licensee in Central America for IANTD. They also have an operation in France for cave diving. They do all sorts of diving, including "open ocean and cenote".
Playa has unusual logistics in that there are no docks - you wade out to your dive boat carrying your gear and somehow clamber aboard. At least, I've not seen docks and the three operators I've used there (not including Protec) all operated that way.

WW set us up in Talum with this operator for cenote dives on the Cosumel, Talum, Holbox trip. They were safe, knowlegable, and fun. We all had a good time with them. At least I did. I still want to go back. I have entertained the thought of taking come cave training there.
Each wreck has a tale to tell about its life and its demise.
If you are observant while diving in dark places listen to the account each has to tell, You cannot come away unaffected.

Got open water certified with Scuba Playa. Anita runs a first class operation.

You are such a sweetie for posting my request here! I've done a ton of research and so appreciate the kindness of everyone on this site. I put out a request to the top dive ops on my list and Geofish was the first/only op to get back to me. That in itself impresses me (you snooze, you lose ) and they get points for having taken a strong stand against feeding or disturbing the (bull) sharks in any way.
I sort of "won" this week at an event last year and it was about to expire. It's a huge all-inclusive (not my style) but I'm thrilled at the chance to dive a cenote. I promise to let you know how it was when I get back!

Akumal Dive Shop in Akumal Bay...great shop! Close dives and TURTLES like to nest there so lots of them around! Nice little town just south of PDC and close to the cenotes. So, maybe give them a try while out and about.
