Another Valentine's Day is near...so tell us about your Valentine's experiences? Is the 14th the same as any other day? Are you in an industry that sees an increase in business due to the 14th? Are you quietly thankful that you are surrounded by people you love and those who love you...even if you don't have a permanent sweetheart? Are you a hopeful romantic that has more traditional plans for the 'Day of Love'?

Tell us your thoughts and yes I know a few or perhaps a lot will rebel at the traditional commercialization of the holiday but deep down many know that they don't express their feelings for the ones they love all year long like they should so Valentine's Day is as good as any to remember to do so! ;)

I'll start...

I'm more of a traditional romantic that loves a little extra fuss in Feb! There I've admitted it! And I've dropped several hints to remind my husband that Valentine's Day is Tuesday so we can plan appropriately! For me that means a nice home cooked meal for him and me taking the night off work for him. Ironically that is our present to each other as well. He wants to eat out and I'd rather have a fab meal in but he wants to surprise me for the evening so not sure how our compromise will pan out other than I will be taking the night off on Tuesday! ;)

I hope whatever you desire for the 14th you achieve! I've spent many a Valentine's Day alone and lonely. I've spent a few diving and finally got smart in later years and started having Valentine's Day Friends Parties or evenings out instead.

It all gives you character and makes us who we are...no matter how we spend the day! :respect:

I was a romantic-at-heart....my second wedding was on Valentines Day. It lasted nearly 20 years, but now that we're divorced that day is pretty much a dud for me. Maybe as time goes by and I get back into the dating game -- or an actual relationship - the Valentines Day magic may come back. This year, I may spend the evening shoveling snow! :lmao:

This year I plan to go out with a bunch of girlfriends and celebrate by eating lots of pasta, drinking lots of wine, and sharing the ridiculous stories from our most recent dates. I guess some of us may be single but that doesn't mean we can't have fun :)

That sounds like a blast. The stories we collect about men over a lifetime can be ridiculous indeed. And the love of friends beats all for me.

Actually most of us are SINGLE which is why this thread is a double edged sword for us. If we do have a date or a sweetheart we are worried if we share we'll just depress everyone else. If we don't have a date or sweetheart and wish we had one then we are too worried we'll depress everyone by moaning about it. If we are married thinking that we'll have a perfect Valentine's Day because we technically have a date and a sweetheart all in one...then we have to worry if they will remember its Valentine's Day!

So I think if you are a female you get the bum end of the stick no matter what. L( However there are a few guys out there smart enough to do it right...and yes if that means succumb to the *commercialism* then so be it but at least there is still hope for the rest of us cuz I know this site is FULL OF GUYS WHO GET IT!!! ;)

And girl's nights out were really fun...we even met some interesting guys while doing that when I was still single. (Which by the way was only a few years ago!) LOL!

Just another day for me. Perhaps it would be different if there was someone to fuss over, but otherwise nothing special to look forward to.

Valentine's Day.

There is the part of me which dislikes the pressure that Hallmark puts on us all to show our love to others on this particular day as opposed to a random Tuesday. But I guess I think that in this busy world we forget to do so and it's nice to be reminded to show the ones we love that we love them. In Europe, this is a day only for lovers. But I think the upside of how Hallmark has schooled those of us in the US over a lifetime is that it is simply a time to show our love to those we love. So this Valentine's Day, as a solo flyer, I have focused on showering those I love with love. Special chosen Valentines for my 7 nieces and nephews, Mother, and even goofy ones for my brothers. Last year, a particularly hard year for me, I got Valentine's flowers from my brother, who knew what a tough time I was having and wanted me to know that I was loved. An Mom always finds a way to chocolate (yes, I use it as a verb) me.

As for romance...I am so a hopeless romantic, and God forbid I ever give up on that, but it isn't tied to this day in particular. Personally, the best relationship of my life was one where he showed me his love in small ways at very random times. We both did. I would not have noticed if he had skipped over Valentine's Day. But he also is still the holder of the most generous (of spirit, we were both young and poor) and well thought out Valentine's Day ever.

I though I was flying solo this Valentine's Day. I took a 2.5 year hiatus from dating and have only recently dipped my little toe back into the world of men and there is no special someone at present. But out of the blue, I received a call yesterday from the most unlikely person asking me if I would spend Valentine's day with him. A hunky diver? Sure I will. Romance? Maybe, maybe not, but how lovely.

Happy Day everyone. There is love out there in some form or fashion for you today.

I'm pretty sure I've spent Valentine's day with someone special every year since 1984, but this year I'm going out to the ale house with 39 of my closest divorced and separated friends. I can feel the love already :teeth:

For some reason, I get the feeling I am not the only one here who visits cracked on a regular basis. :D

On topic, nothing special planned.

Wow, life really does turn in very unexpected ways. I went into the evening extremely cynical and with a cold heart. But I met someone tonight whose smile and warm acceptance melted my heart instantly. The chemistry was undeniable. We stayed late after everyone else left, just talking, smiling, and enjoying each other's company. There was no chocolate, no flowers, no jewelry, not even a kiss - none of the trappings of holidays past - but it was without a doubt the best Valentine's Day ever.

God works in mysterious ways...I'm glad you have come full circle. Just take it slow since you still need to get thru your divorce process and you wouldn't want to mess up a great relationship rebounding. But that is great news!

Thanks Kamala,

It's dangerous path between the Scylla of a rebound relationship and the Charybdis of maintaining emotional distance. I'm well aware since I sailed these waters long ago. But that's ancient history now- or maybe even mythology ;-)

That said, what made the evening so special was not romance- there wasn't any - but just finding a kindred spirit to talk to. All the right ingredients are there for romance but the opportunity will be likely be missed because of where I am on my journey. I'm OK with that. Right now, friendship is eaxctly what I'm looking for.
