Another member is need of your prayers and good thoughts and positive energy! Rick aka Hipshot came down with a mysterious infection Super Bowl Sunday and was hospitalized. He is home but not back to normal...pleas keep him in your daily thoughts and prayers. Kamala

I don't know if you knew, but on Super Bowl Sunday I was hospitalized for a systemic infection. I'm out of the hospital now, but I'm still pretty weak. Hopefully I'll be ready for BTS. ...Thanks, Kamala. I need all the prayers that I can get. It's so strange to be this weak. This guy who used to use an elliptical cross-trainer by the hour now gets winded taking out the garbage. I now use a cane if I have to walk any kind of distance or carry something. Hopefully, I'll be back up to snuff for BTS.

ou

Rick...you are in my daily prayers that you continue to fight off this mysterious infection and regain your health fully and swiftly. We'd love to see you at BTS but will completely understand if you can't make it. As you know I am reaching out to our diving family to send good thoughts, positive energy and prayers your way for a full and speedy recovery!

I just want to thank all of you for your well-wishes and prayers. :thankyou: I'm on the road to recovery--even in a week, those around me have noticed an improvement, and so have I. I've just got to take it slow, for as long as it takes. At 59, I don't recover as fast as when I was 29.

Very sorry to hear about this. Yay to you getting out of the hospital! That's a huge step given what I am reading between the lines as having happened. Please be patient with the rest of your recovery.

I have been exactly where you are more than once. It is a slow road back as there can be many things going on in the background of such a serious infection. But be kind to yourself, feed your body really good stuff, exercise to the extent that you are able to every day, do as you are asked to do by your docs, and slowly but surely you will get your strength back. To dive, of course :)

Let me clarify the exercise part. I'm an NP, not suggesting that you push yourself beyond your current limits. Just that you work within them to try to regain your strength and stamina. I remember at the beginning I could barely make it up and down my stairs once a day and that was with pausing. Then after I was well enough to leave the house, my mother would pick me up, take me to Costco so that I could hold onto the cart handles, I'd do a lap or perhaps two and then she'd take me home. It does come back, albeit on a much slower timeline than anyone would like.

I really feel for you and wish you a speedy recovery.

Thanks, Leslie. I appreciate your input and your advice is spot-on. :thankyou:

A little bit about my history. I almost died on my 39th birthday from a virus-induced cardiomyopathy. Less than six months out of the hospital I was scuba diving and working out in the gym again. My 59th birthday this past November was a milestone that few thought I’d see. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and went over it like a speed bump. I developed venous reflux in my legs, and have lived with it. A few years ago, I developed atrial fibrillation, and have negotiated with it. I’m used to battle. This is just one more battle, and when all is said and done, I plan on coming out on top. Time will tell.

Thanks, again.

Rick

I have no doubt that you will come out on top, stronger than ever, you are a survivor. Hope the diabetes management is going well.

Don't forget the part about managing stress. It is known that stress downregulates immune function, although we don't yet know how to measure very many aspects of immune function. That is what my docs believe got me into so much trouble. I was undergoing the most stressful time in my life when the ground collapsed underneath me. And then kept collapsing. Although we cannot control all of the stressful things in our lives, we can work on controlling our response to them, and be healthier in all ways for it.

I know you will be feeling stronger soon, keep us posted.
