IMPORTANT UPDATE:

We are postponing this event as many of our core group planning to attend now can not join us. However we will look at rescheduling dates if possible for this year. Post to let us know what dates will work for you. kamala



Hey Gang...its time for a South East Regional Happy Hour and Dive Day in South Carolina aka Lake Jocassee aka the wench's new stomping grounds!

We'll do a pre-event Happy Hour Friday Aug 3rd and a day long dive event with boat diving on Sat Aug 4th and then a post event Happy Hour on Sat night.

We'll dive, camp and cookout and have a blast!

If you've ever wanted to dive Lake Jocassee here's your chance! If you want to try a drysuit or specific type of gear... we can make that happen too!

And to help host the event OTWDiver will capt our boat dives and/or dive with us and help show SC's finest hospitality!

So save the dates and plan to join SD diving and celebrating locally! Its been at least 2 years since we've had a local event so I hope we have a great turn out!

We'll be planning a 2 tank am dive that leaves at 9am and a 2 tank pm dive that leaves at 1pm. You'll have a chance to do 4 dives including famous sites like the Mt Carmel Cemetary made famous in the Deliverance Movie....

Stay tuned for more details and let us know if you are planning to join us. Since we'll be doing boat dives we'll do a regular sign up like we do for an SD trip. So let us know if you want to be notified when the full details are ready for sign ups!

Please put me on the interested list. I'll contact some of the Atlanta people who may not visit the board as frequently, and ensure they know about it - although, were you all planning on sending an email?

Also - is there a chance if there is enough interest we could get a tech boat - or we could do one tank dives off the same boat, during the two tank dive times? Thanks!

Kate of course we appreciate you telling the ATL peeps...we never have enough manpower to do all the promotion we would like and need to do.

As far as diving tech... Kate as you know we can accommodate tech with recreational divers as a general rule. Are you wanting to do 1 long dive or will you be doing 2 dives and managing your deco and gas mamagement to work around a set timeframe between dives?

Since lodging is VERY limited...I have reserved the house/cabin that is next to the dive shop. It has 2 beds but if people brought sleeping bags we could probably get a few more in it. The rate is $100 per night and the cabin has 1 bed and 1 sofa sleeper. We would do a coin toss to see who got the bed depending on how you all wanted to split it up and how many peeps need a room. I'll have to ask Bill if the RouthRoom and Shadpad are open for guests... he sort of cut me off the last time after I had 5 or 6 guests plus us in a 900 sq ft house! But I've been really good and he has had a number of guests in the house since them so I think he owes me... LOL!

RE: the profiles - it depends on where we go. For example:
- am dives on the graveyard then somewhere else, could see doing two two dives just going in first on the graveyard
- pm dives on the wall/junk, I'd do one long dive.

Of course depending on mix and working it out with Bill of course!

BTW, anyone coming to LJ should definitely check that cabin out, it is very cute/unique!!!

If you guys have a way to send an email I think that would be a great way to generate a largish crowd from the ATL.

Hi Kamala - I noticed the list of names on the initial post isn't getting updated. I wanted to confirm the date for this event, since - as ridiculous as it sounds - I am planning my summer weekends out through September at this point. Thanks!

The event is firm...even if its only OTWDiver and myself....

UPDATE:

We have a boat reserved for the morning for 2 dives... boat leaves at 9am and divers check in at 8:30 at the latest. Cost is $40 for 2 tanks and includes boat ride, lead, 2 rental tanks or 2 air fills. OTWDiver will be our boat captain and we can do a mix of recreational and technical diving as mentioned before. We'll probably visit the cemetery since it is famous from the movie Deliverance and I'm not sure the other spot.

Other Options: We can book another 2 tank dive for the afternoon or just do the dives in the afternoon on Friday. I do need to book the boat accordingly as being summertime they will fill out quickly leaving us little wiggle room in the near future.

I can also set up a charter for Sunday but have not do so yet.

Currently we have our Happy Hour set for Friday night and recapping on Saturday night UNLESS you all want to dive again on Sunday. I have the little cabin next to us rented for Friday and Saturday night. It will sleep 2 in beds and as many sleeping bags as we like.

So let me know your thoughts and of course your firm commitments as soon as you can. We'll start to take trip payments in the next month or so for boat spots. kamala
