I thought of a question while reading the Cozumel report last night. She mentioned she likes Sea Horses.

What is your favorite fish or sea creature and why?

I happen to love Sea Urchin's. I guess I love them because it is hard to believe they are alive. They look more like a flower. By the way, anyone have a good photo of an Urchin?

Yah, here's an urchin, not that I'm really fond of them, but I was running out of things to shoot... having just shot one (pictures, no harm to the urchin :teeth: ) I'll try some more shots and put a little effort into them...

My preference is anenomes.. heheheh... Waaaaaaaaay to many shots of those, but I think they can be absolutely gorgeous... I've got some in the gallery.. (fbp)

I don't see the ability to attache a pic here so will put it in the gallery...

All the stuff under the sea is great.. and the colors?? whoa.... blows ma mind every time...

Hope that helps..

People freak out because I pet Long Spined Urchins. My favorite is the Indigo Hamlet. Other than our SD ladies, they are the most beautiful things I've ever seen underwater.

The Spotted Drum Equetus -- beautiful, unusual, graceful --
first time I saw it while diving Akumal Reefs last week.

I've got quite a few I really love but the most majestic to me is watching a spotted eagle ray swim. What a beautiful creature.

I'm still so new to the whole underwater environment - everything is absolutely awesome.

Some of my favorites so far have been:

Rock Beauties
French Angelfish - saw some the size of trashcan lids at Flower Gardens
Christmas Tree worms
Spotted Eagle Ray
...and TURTLES - i squeal every time I see a turtle!

We see lots of turtles off Palm Beach.

Great thread!

I agree with Chinacat, I love rays because of their interesting shape, and the way they glide so effortlessly through the water.

I saw a huge spotted eagle ray on my very first night dive, years ago while diving off Key Largo. It was just starting to get dark and we saw it from a distance. It was magnificant!! :teeth:

Diving in SoCal has many great things. I love the way that the sea lions play with you, I love the bold garibaldi that will peck at your mask if you get too close to its territory, the graceful bat rays, the enormous black sea bass, and I love swimming in the kelp forest. I remember the first time I saw a REALLY big shark in Micronesia and thought "ho-o-o-o-o-o-o-ly crap!". And I really liked watching Marvelicious swim in Bonaire ... for those who haven't dived with her yet it's tough to imagine someone loving the freedom that diving gives us any more than she does!

Okay, so I'm very fickle... I like whatever creature I'm diving with at the time. They all are so interesting in their own ways.

Octopus because they are so smart and just really designed in such an interesting way. I guess I would group cuttlefish in the same basket.

I almost picked cuttlefish instead of a spotted eagle ray. I had so many dives with cuttlefish in wakatobi they to are amazing creatures.
