Some resort boats DM-Captain-Mate just do a head count and hopefully the numbers before the dive and after are the same.
A Florida dive boat clipped a numbered tag on my bc. If 9 numbers (divers) are diving, 9 tags should be back on the board or a STOP sign is displayed.
I’ve been on some dive boats where there may be 2 crew and 3 client divers and no roll call-head count was needed.
So what’s your comfort level on being reassured that the standard of operation is safe for the local and type of diving your engaged upon.

Resort dive boat have different standards of operation . I recently returned from a resort that roll called your name from a manifest before departing from dock and again when returning from your dive before they untied from mooring ball.

I 'm for the 1st option. For most of my trips I've experienced ,a name calling for check in and after a dive..

Choose your poison. The role call is a good way to avoid issues, but be prepared for when the worse happens.
