I'll be in Balikpapan the last week of December and I'm thinking of heading up to Maratua Paradise Resort to see what the diving there is like. I've been several times to Sipadan thus I want to try something different. The resort is a small 16 cottage place on a small island off the South East coast of Borneo (Indonesia portion of Borneo).

Has anyone been to this resort or one in the area? I looking for a small island with a dive shop to spend New Years as I'll be in the region already and don't really want to trek back to a major city for the celebrations. Better to chill under the natural stars with no reflective lights to diminish their glow instead of the old rotating disco ball....I'm also too far away to get back and join the SD trip for New Years. Will have to meet up with everyone on the Bonnaire trip instead.

Appreciated any feedback on Maratua Paradise Resort or suggestions.
