I need to find out if I can fly with United Miles. I know both UA and Singapore Air are in Star Aliance, but how many miles do I need for these days? I will call them. If doable, I am interested to join.

John, United had quite a few award tickets available when I got mine the other day. You'll need 130,000 total miles for the round trip. I used my United miles for a United flight from Chicago to Singapore and then I'm paying cash for Singapore Air Singapore to Manado (about $400). Good luck!

Before your post, I called United and they made it sound so complicated. So I was thinking this is too much, I may not be able to go. />

After seeing your post, I went online and see that although I have to do two orders, each is painless.
I only used 65K miles for chicago to SIN, then less than $400 for SIN <-> MDC.

The only thing left is getting a hotel room for the transit in Singapore on the way back.

And John as I said on the phone...if no one else signs up for the 7 day option we will have to be creative with either doing a single for the week or just paying the 2 night s/o charge for someone doing the 9 day option. Either way we'll work it out.
