I always feel that learning to dive in cold water is better than in warm water. You get a better appreciation of learning and mastering your skills with the added stress of the cold water.  Even diving dry, your body will be warm, but you will still be experiencing some cold water shocks, e.g. doing skills like mask removal and clearing.

Yes indeed! That's why I'm adding drysuit training onto my beginner courses! I was hesitant at first, but in light of hearing from many people about the many benefits of learning to drive dry, I decided it's well worth the *brrr* factor.

Thx for yet another endorsement, Dennis!

Well Anna I sure hope you are "driving dry", like the roadside signs say around here "DUI, you can't afford it" and they aren't talking about that brand of dry suits!

LOL!!! Considering I only drink about one bottle of wine a year, I don't think that will be much of an issue!

(The waters turn *cold* in Vancouver after September.)

Caetllonn,

I hate to break this to you but the waters here are ALWAYS cold!! Year round there is very little temperature fluctuation here once you drop below the thermocline...

Michelle! First you tell me to get rid of my Mac and now this??? :)

This isn't what the dive instructor at Great Pacific Diving told me! :( He assured me it wouldn't be too bad, in a drysuit of course, until October or so. (I was hoping to complete my certification by then anyway.) Yikes!!!

Thanks for the forewarning though. :(

Don't worry my dear! You will be fine in a drysuit, just not a wetsuit! The water is definitely warmer in the summer but it is only a matter of a degree or two (however, I must tell you that the degree or two can make a very big difference!) Also, remember, it is always more pleasant when you are not freezing before you get in!! :) Get certified and we can go diving!!

Nothing better for cold diving than an apres dive hot toddy!

I prefer Pyrate Tea--Hot tea with a splash of rum---Arrggh--it's good!

Agreed! It's not worth freezing if there is no reward at the end! :)

Mount Gay's my favorite rum. Are those Australian rums? Sounds like something to explore!

Bubndy (Bundaburg) is, I think Coruba is Jamaican. I don't drink the stuff....
