Hey gang...many of you ask what the big difference is between the black and the silver...besides money? And the answer is nothing much OTHER more than I initially thought....(thanks Clint for the great summary) the black has a remote control that allows you to take pics or video using a tri-pod (above water only) while being in the picture and/or video. You can use the remote to stop and start it.

And...

1. The black edition has an upgraded lens. GoPro themselves rates the silver lens as sharp and the black lens as 2X sharp.

2. Also the lenses are rated for low level light. White is consumer, silver is prosumer and black is professional rated. As a diver I wanted the best low light rating to film at depth.

3. The black edition also has resolutions over the silver (4K Cinema, 2.7K Cinema and 1440). The highest for the silver is 1080P.

4. Slow motion is upgraded in the black edition since you can shoot at 60fps in 1080p and 240fps in WVGA mode.

5. One last thing... The black edition can simultaneously shoot video and capture images. The Silver cannot.

I would interject a couple points to the argument between models.

One will have to decide if these points are important in their decision, but I thought worth mentioning.

Also want to point out the remote control is waterproof up to 10'. Can't take it on adive, but definitely safe if it gets splashed on. Well maybe a bathtub dive when you get the itch during a long dry spell. ;)/>

I see it used a lot on youtube such as wearing the GoPro on your head and the remote on your wrist.
