So I know that you don't want to wait until your passport is too close to the expiration date before you get a new one. How much sooner is it that everyone gets a new passport? Months? Year? 2 years?
Thanks!

Many countries require that you have at least 6 months left on your passport before it expires in order to enter their country. So I would start the process well before the six month mark in case a last minute trip out of the country becomes necessary.
I would do a year before it expires. If you have to go out of the country in the last six months of the valid passport time, you can always expedite the passport, up to going directly to a passport center with your an outbound plane ticket and you can get the passport same day. But getting the passport a year prior to expiration saves the stress. just my 2psi

I just renewed mine in September for a dive trip that I was taking in October. It processed quite quickly, I think three weeks. The previous passport was set to expire in March 2014, so under the six month time remaining requirement. If I hadn't had a trip planned, I would have waited until a couple of months prior. But hey, stress is fun.....
Instead of "SINGLE" as a marital status, I prefer "Independently Owned & Operated"

At 6 months is more than adequate.

I wouldn't travel on a passport with less than 6 months unless I absolutely had to, so once It gets that short, I get it renewed.

OK thank you. I will have 11 months left the next time I need it, so I should be good.

When it's down to 6 pages...it's time.
