If you call you'll only get the official byline. It varies as they check you in, BUT....they seemed to allow 2 carry on's as long as only one was a suitcase styled one (check the dimensions as they were measuring them to be sure they were small enough) and the 2nd one was a small backpack or purse or handbag. They were letting you have 15 pounds in each bag. If any bag looks heavy or too large they will target it.  We had so many people have issues at the front of the line that they got more lenient towards the back of the line. Others have said that the first of the line is more lenient and they are worse towards the end.

 

So take your back pack and make sure it does not weigh more than 15# and your carry on does not weigh more than 15#. Technically they were giving you 30# of carry on luggage without add'l charge.

 

Again a travel vest SOLVES MANY ISSUES. I got mine from scottevest but there are other good ones.

Thanks.  I couldn't get a travel vest in time, but will for future travels.  This is tough because no airline ever weighed my carry-on before.

 

You're gonna laugh when you see how I packed to meet the 15 lb requirement.  My usual carry-on weighs 7 lbs, not leaving much room for clothes.  So, I repacked everything into a duffel bag that weighed 4.5 lbs- still over.  Finally, I used my ski boot bag.  It's nylon and only weighs 1/2 lb so I'm just under 15 lbs.

 

Since we'll be on a boat, I had to make room for my "just in case" kit.  It snowed another 8 inches today.  I'm SO ready to get there.

Tim & I arrive in LAX at 6:30pm on Saturday, when do you get there? There are six of us on the Fiji flight that night, maybe we can all meet up prior to boarding...

Sound good.  I'm flying in from DC around 3:30 pm LA time.  Looking at previous posts, it appears that the Fiji airlines check-in desk doesn't open until around 6:30 so I'll have to hang around for a while.  I'm easy to find:  there's not many 6'3" asian people around and all my bags have the Singledivers luggage tag on them.  Would be best to check in first and then we'll have a few hours to meet over dinner before boarding.

There is a couple of good food eating places on the secured side. There is only a small coffee shop with snacks and a snack shop on the unsecured side in the Tom Bradley International terminal.  TRAVEL WITH SNACKS IF YOU CAN!
