QUALIFICATIONS:
Why Dominica is NOT for new divers....(in my opinion)
1. If you dive the top rated destination in the Caribbean first then you have nothing to look forward too when you dive other places.
2. If you are a new diver then you are typically a new traveler as well. Traveling to Dominica is not always easy but is easily offset by the AMAZING diving. The saying..."If it were easy to get here it would look like the rest of the caribbean" is very very true. However without being a bit travel savvy and understanding that bags may not arrive for a day or two since the planes are so small, you will end up with people upset. That is why I target my experienced divers...they have enough diving and travel savvy and experience to recognize how pristine this diving is and THAT offsets just about every issue encountered trying to get there.
3. If you are new diver the boat can not go to the most amazing sites that are in the Atlantic...the sponges are so big a full grown man can lie inside of them, There are big animals and huge schools of fish...but if there are new divers the boat will not go to these sites in case of current.
4. While the diving is super easy along the leeward side of the island and those sites are still pristine compared to other islands, they are limited so if you have new divers you have to start repeating sites since the number of sites that are perfect for new divers is limited in number.
So save Dominica for when you are tired of the rest of the Caribbean and for when you are ok with travel delays and glitches trying to get to a very small tiny island. If the former is true...then you'll blow off the latter when you see how amazing Dominica is.

DURING YOUR SURFACE IINTERVAL:
Throughout the week you can do local sightseeing, tours and activities such as kayaking, hiking, and exploring the island. We will spend a great deal of time on the island as we experience the amazing diversity of this Caribbean Gem.
At some time during the week we'll go to the orphanage or foster home and try to personally bring our school & life supplies to the children. These interactions with the kids are usually very moving and powerful...don't miss it!
Our last group dinner takes place our last night on island. We celebrate the fantastic week of diving!
If you want to book add'l tours during our trip let us know! We'll have a full list of other options posted soon.
Dive Dominica also offers Whale & Dolphin Safaris
Dominica is blessed with an abundance of both resident and visiting cetaceans – pods of Spinner and Spotted Dolphins, Pilot Whales, Sperm Whales, False Orcas and at least a dozen other species. The Sperm Whales are resident here – they live in the waters surrounding Dominica - their breeding and calving area.
Whales and Dolphins are sighted so frequently in these waters that Dominica is widely considered to be one of the best areas in the Caribbean for encounters with these fascinating creatures. See if YOU can identify the over 20 different species of WHALES alone found in the warm waters of Dominica!!! THIS IS A MUST DO EXCURSION!!!
Success rate: 95% success sightings.

DIVING:
- We’ll be diving with DIVE DOMINICA!
- We dive at sites in and around the Soufriere Scotts Head Marine Reserve every morning and we also have regular night diving trips.
- Dominica’s Soufriere Scotts Head Marine Reserve is located in the south west of the island, just a short boat trip from Dive Dominica.
- Dives are guided by our PADI divemasters or instructors who all have intimate knowledge of the sites and the creatures that live there.
- DIVE DOMINICA is the only dive operator on Dominica offering enriched air (Nitrox) diving, and if you wish to extend your dive skills you can choose from a range of refresher, intermediate and advanced courses.
- Today, Dominica’s lush forest and soaring mountains are a perfect backdrop to the spectacular dive sives that sit hidden just offshore. The dramatic topography continues underwater and gives Dominica some of the Caribbean’s most spectacular diving. As you gently slide beneath the sea, the lush gree mountains are replaced by underwater pinnacles that rise from the depths, covered in brilliantly colour corals and cloaked with tropical reef fish.
- Divers who have dared to stray from the traditional, heavily advertised Caribbean dive destinations have been treated to an unbelievable dive holiday.
- Un-crowded dive boats pick and choose from an inexhaustible selection of pristine dive sites.
- Once underwater here, you seldom see other divers and you would be hard pressed to find evidence of reef damage caused by divers.
- Every dive site is a macro-photographer’s fantasy with a rich assortment of colourful sponges, an abundance of crinoids, camouflaged frogfish, arrowcrabs, anemones with cleaner shrimp of every kind hiding inside them, walls covered in black coral, and gorgonians with the occasional seahorse attached.
- Wide-angle photographers will delight in our swim-troughs full of soldier fish and grunts that part like a curtain with the passage of each diver. Caves full of lobster, dramatic arches of coral-covered granite, schools of sennet, large Southern stingrays, big barracuda, schools of baitfish being pursued by various jacks, and huge barrel sponges make impressive images.
- All of these dive sites are a stone’s throw from the shore and lie with the Scott’s Head/Soufriere Marine Reserve, which encompasses just under 3 miles of coastline.
Dive Dominica operates at sites in and around the reserve and our professional dive staff know the environment and its inhabitants intimately.
Whatever your experience and ability, scuba diving with Dive Dominica is professionally organised, friendly, and geared to maximise your safety and fun.
Shore Diving: The shore diving opportunities are endless and some of the best reefs are in front of the hotel!
Night Diving: One night dive is included in the package and more can be arranged throughout the week for $66 per person (paid in advance) with a minimum of 6 divers.
Conditions:
Max Depth is 20-130’ but most dives are very easy and shallow.
Did we mention the BATFISH, FROGFISH & SEAHORSES!
SAMPLE ITINERARY:
While our personal Dominica Experience may vary due to weather and conditions, the outline below will give you a good feel for the exciting week in store for us:
Saturday May 23rd, 2015 OR May 30th, 2015: This will be the official ARRIVAL date in Dominica and the evening of our first group Dinner!
Each morning we SD will do two tank dives off the boats (dives start at 8:45 am until approx 1 pm).
Each afternoon enjoy great shore diving directly in front of the hotel.
Breakfast is included daily and is available at 7:30am on premises.
Lunch also takes place at Castle Comfort. You each have a $10 Lunch voucher for 5 days of lunch.
We subsidized the local lunch fare to help everyone be together to plan afternoon diving teams. Or you can then take a quick siesta, shop, relax or head up or down the beach after the day is finished.
Each afternoon/evening SD Happy Hour takes place - don't forget to bring a bottle of your favorite booze(s) from Duty Free!
Dinner is on your own in one of Dominica's MANY AND DELICIOUS eating establishments and follows our resident Happy Hours. TWO Dinners will be included in the pkg current set for our first day of arrival the 25th and May 30th. We are sandwiched in by 2 hotels with restaurants and its a $1 bus fare to downtown.
Sunday or Wednesday Afternoon: Our Whale & Dolphin Tour will be at 2pm SHARP today. We will try to charter the whole boat! Dominica is the WHALE WATCHING CAPITAL OF THE WORLD!!! - Come see why!
May 29th, 2015 OR Jun 5th, 2015: This day will be free for activities and sightseeing or just cleaning gear, packing and relaxing.
AIRFARE & LOGISTICS:
Remember if it were easy to get there...it would look like the rest of the Caribbean!
Dominica has two airports: Melville Hall (code: DOM) is the larger of the two and approximately 60 minute drive from Roseau. Canefield (code: DCF) is smaller but only 15 minutes from Roseau.
Many connections are offered via Saint Marteen (SXM). A few are listed below:
1. Your Airport City to SXM
2. LIAT Air Seaborne Airlines, WinAir and Hummingbird Air all offer connections to DOM. Regional hubs include: Antigua, San Juan, St. Lucia, St. Marteen (SXM), Tortola and Barbados.
3. SD CHARTER - SD has once again arranged a charter flight from/to SXM for $385 with taxes USD roundtrip.
Charter Priority: Those paying in full for the trip can book spots first...then those who deposit and post their template on the site...can put dibs in for any remaining spots after the "paid in full's" have done so. Charter Schedule:
