Several of you are signed up for the RAB aka Rent-A-Buddy program. And several have asked about add'l training on the trip.

 

Please use this thread/topic for these discussions. THE TRIP PM LANDS IN EVERYONE'S BOX AND PEOPLE WILL TUNE THEM OUT MISSING VALUABLE INFORMATION so please have the discussions here regarding add'l training and/or the Rent-A-Buddy program.

You can do your nitrox on the trip.... let me know as it is done online before the trip. I'll send you the code. You do the book work before the trip and the practicals on the trip.

 

AOW is probably not available as the resort is full and the instructors will all be working the divers at the resort. HOWEVER if we have several people wanting to do it we may be better able to set it up!

Hi Tom, Penny & Bob, 

 

I'm a former RAB and found the program to be great.   I also wasn't sure what to expect.  I had been out of the water for a few years and had only done a few dives on an annual basis here/there. My RAB was Kamala and for the trip and there was a total of 3 RAB's working with her.   Pre-diving you'll have a skill assessment discussion with Kamala so she can determine what skills to work on with each diver.  Day 1 in the water, is a second assessment for a better snap shot of skills in use vs. skills needed per diver.   Before each dive she'll provide a briefing (in addition to the site briefing) with dive specifics (max depth for us, direction, etc).   During dive she's works with everyone to increase skill set.   Post dive there is another briefing during SI and discussion is a skill review  (this time you did X and did you notice the improvement in your buoyancy?,   next time do Y, etc).  Kamala provides great tips on focus areas everyone is striving to improve - air consumption, buoyancy, etc.   I highly recommend RAB and can't say enough about it.   Kamala is best buddy ever!

UPDATE ON ADD'L TRAINING:

 

It looks like we can get an AOW Class set up for $300 which includes the book and the c-card. Helen aka FishFriend is doing the class...anyone else interested? Bob were you still interested?

For AOW class - this was confirmed on May 19 via Beccy at Reef in Brac.  I've paid $158 to PADI direct for the e-learning AOW class (FYI 12-15 hours of course time).   See info email below from Reef Divers:

 

 Hi Helen,

 

The cost for the course is $300USD – this is the instructor cost only and does not include the dives but I understand you are on a dive package so are covered there..  It will most probably be 3 dives on Sunday and 2 on Monday but the instructor may choose to do 2 on Sunday and 3 on Monday depending on the suitability of dive sites.  Right now the instructor/student ratio will be 1:1.  It is unlikely that someone else will sign up for the same course on the same days as you but if they do we will only take a maximum of 4 students per instructor.  For the course the compulsory dives are Deep and Navigation and you need another 3.  You will need to complete the knowledge reviews for each dive before arrival on island.   I suggest as well as deep and navigation you select another 4-5 to complete in the book to ensure that we can find suitable dives to complete the course.. for example wreck, boat, peak performance buoyancy, underwater naturalist, fish ID.

 

I have booked you in to meet your instructor on Sunday 12^th July 7:45am. J

It's been a few years since my last dive and I have all new gear. I wasn't considering RAB but maybe I should. I want my 1st dive to be a check out dive and then I should be good to go.

All of you are on my boat. I will talk to each of you about what you want from your program. The first couple of dives are just get back in the water and knock out the cobwebs. Then we will work on bouyancy, trim, air consumption and anything else you want to work on.
