Hey gang...with 27 people on the trip we will need two boats. I am finding out what the split will be and if we have two boats exclusively to ourselves or what.

That being said we need to figure out how to split the boats... in the past we have done the following:

1. All those doing the 3rd dive on one boat and those only doing the am dives on another boat

2. Allow people to choose to be on one boat vs another (especially if the smaller boat means others from the resort may be on it)

3. Put the new members with some of the returning members on one boat and a smaller group of returning members on the 2nd boat.

So you can see that no solution is perfect but we do need to make two boat splits so rather than me just doing it...I would like for you all to contribute ideas if you would like on how to best handle it. :thankyou:

I remember in Bonaire we had boats kinda sorta divided by general skill level and it worked out OK.

Another option might be 'hardcore photographers' vs. 'non hardcore photographers'

I assume only one boat per dive site?

Yes one boat per dive site.

The only drawback to doing it by skill level is that it places an uneven burden on the dive guides so having it mixed a bit actually works better.

The photographer split may work as well but you do encounter having enough camera space on the boat and of course enough critters to go around. I'd hate to be the one non-photog on the camera intensive boat but would love to be the only photog on the non-camera intensive boat.  (See what I mean?)

Good insight though... if nothing else it shows it is pretty hard to make these splits  easily. :(

I vote the am only divers on one, and the 3rd dive folks on the other. At least first couple days, then if some people really want to dive with new buddies they could swap....

I am leaning this way but unfortunately swapping is a night mare and only handled in an extreme situation. So we need to get it as right as we can the first time!

From the boat....

You can split however you like, we have another 20 or so other people diving that week so we may have to put some on the same boats as your group.  We do our best to try and give large groups their own boats but it is not always possible.  If you would definitely like at least one boat just your group you can have 20 on one and 7 on the other, or you can split 13 and 14 and then we will make sure to only have 2 or 3 maximum of other divers on your boats.

So there you have it... we can have others join us on BOTH boats or just on one.

I prefer the option to split 13/14 SD divers on each boat.

I like the idea of the 13/14 split but how you pick the 13 and 14 does not matter to me.  I am just happy to get wet

I think the 13/14 split sounds good- then one boat isn't disproportionally none SD divers, that would kinda suck for that group.

Hello gang.... I made the splits so one boat has 13 and one has 14 people on it. I will post the lists as soon as I can and I will have them at the resort this evening during the orientation. The resort will give one and I will give one as well on how our week will work! :thankyou:
