However fortunately for us banana loving folks....my NC boat operator has finally allow bananas on the boat....however eating them will be graded!!! LOL!!!  True story.... :welcome:

Graded on what? Oh never mind, if we go on with that topic, it will wind up in "issues related to being single forum" and we will create more work for Walter to keep us all in line!

I drink low sodium V8 juice. It's got a healthy dosage of potassium and lycopene and because it's low sodium less salt. Not to mention that I like it. But I like Kilkenny better. :welcome:

I don't worry too much about it. I still eat more healthy than many of the population and that is good enough for me. Once I get back into finding the time to swim laps again, I will be all set. :) But my current profession has me being pretty physical again, so I get some movement over the course of the day. It's boring as heck most days, but it keeps money coming in so that I can go diving :)

Wow... an actual serious thread for once.

Hey Coo's Toe....how come you haven't started one before this???? :)

Because it's twice as fun reading about your bananna eating performances. LOL

I like serious stuff too, but I've been in more of a comical frame of mind lately. :welcome:

OK, so it's rest, exercise, plenty of fluids, vitamins, an aspirin, and BANANAs for optimal preparation for diving.

Why asprin? I haven't read anything about asprin and DCS in several years, but at that time DAN said asprin preventing DCS was a myth and might mask symptoms.

Asprin also destroys vitamin C.

I tend to drink a fair amount of water when diving. When on dive trips, I've noticed by about the third day, that the water I'm consuming seems to go right through me and I'm still thirsty. A bottle of Gatorade seems to rectify the problem and then it's back to water for me.

And I don't pee in my wetsuit!!

Hmmmm....let me see.....we are single.....want to dive.....want to meet other singles who want to dive....and we want to be healthy enough to enjoy all the above....YOU tell me...shouldn't we ALL be interested in proper health and nutrition?

Now be careful...with a lead in like that....I will start a new thread on proper nutrition for diving. In fact I've been working on developing a program for divers called "Dive Deeper Into Nutrition...just add H20". :cool2:

You've just described MY pre-diving regime...except for I don't take isolated vitamin supplements...but I do get all the vitamins and nutrients from whole food in an easy to consume capsule form instead. :cool2:

Another reason bananas are bad luck on boats, according to Florida Keys skippers, grew out of all the banana boat sinkings. I am not superstious, but I try to honor local customs & cultures, i.e. removing my cap in a churh, not carrying pork across the mountain on Hawaii Island, etc.

I tend to drink a fair amount of water when diving. When on dive trips, I've noticed by about the third day, that the water I'm consuming seems to go right through me and I'm still thirsty. A bottle of Gatorade seems to rectify the problem and then it's back to water for me.

This statement seems compatible with my suggestion that water is not enough - especially empty, RO, botted water. Even more likely in warmer climes where we may be sweating {the women may be prespiring} more than we realize in the wind, as salts/electrolytes are lost thru sweat and urine both?

Ergo, I would think that some extra NaCl and KCl - from gateraid or adding 1/4 teaspoon of Morton Lite (with NaCl & KCL) per quart of liquid would help for a short term regime while on a diving trip. I understand that such may be more than most want to deal with, but - is there a problem with this if I do it?

And - I think we skipper by heavy drinking on a dive trip, Doc...?

thanks, don

Yes, well diving in the tropics is an extreme climate change for me!! I "glow" a little more thus losing water. I don't add salt to my food and don't tend to eat much prepared foods where salt has been added so maybe I'm just a bit low in it anyway although I know that that's not usually the case! A little Gatorade part way through the week does me fine. I wouldn't drink it every day however.

Diverlady

And I don't take bananas with me when diving. I'm usually camping and diving together and bananas attract mosquitos!!

Hey Don, I don't see a problem with your recipe, as long as you have normal kidney function. In fact, next time we are diving together, I'd like to have a swig or two to try it.
So, DL... are you saying that you are not a banana girl, but WW is? How can there be a contest? First one to finish their vitamin K source wins!

You mean that you don't get enough with everybody "going bananas" here.
