Ok time for all our seasoned and novice flyers to help create a list of ALL THE SEATS TO AVOID when FLYING.

We will create a list and hopefully it will be quite definitive and can be used for new members joining our group! :thankyou:

WORST SEATS ON A PLANE:

1. The last row in front of the lavatory.

Why?

They do not recline, they have people mingling by them all the time. They often have lavatory smells wafting over them.

Advantages?

You can more readily stand up in the isle without being directed back to your seat.

Worst seats on a plane:

Any seat other than pilot or copilot

Why?:

No one else has any idea what is really happening aboard and/or about the flight.

Advantages?:

Since these seats are never available it precludes need for enduring odious and frustrating self humiliation through TSA (and if internationally traveling, Customs/Immigration) checkpoints.

This is why I always prefer to drive. Even 11 hours one way to the Keys. My travel motto: "Because I can walk a lot farther than I can fly."

....What? Cynical? Who, me??? :teeth:

Dude you need to get GOES!!!  Nobody is more upset with incompetent USG security procedures than me right now.  I'm gonna have to fight you if you think you are.  I'm seeing red tape and hoops to jump through in my sleep.

They are all the same to me except for the last row for the reason you mention.  I also either want a window or aisle seat.  Personally.  I prefer window since I don't like people sitting on both sides of me and nobody will make me get up at the worst possible time so that they can get up.

I don't mind being that guy though, another advantage to the window seat

Actually the worst seat is the seat next to the weirdo that thinks the world is flat and the government is out to get him.  I got that seat coming back from Truk.  The long leg.  He lost it towards the end of the flight and started going off and defending his nuttiness to me, without me saying a word.  Thats hard to ignore and also hard to keep from getting arrested when you have to endure it after 12-14hrs in the air in economy.

Also the seat that the kids behind you keep kicking and the parents think its funny.  Had that seat also.

Guess you can't plan for those things.  Sadly, duct tape and ether would probably get you in trouble if employed to rectify the problem.

Brad, sweet heart, you need to get a life

1] The world is FULL of dive sites which put the coast of FL & Keys to shame - you gotta FLY to get there!!!

2] Just because I don't have gills, and can't grow them, doesn't mean I'm not going to dive.

3] Can introduce you to my ex-wife? Suddenly, after marrying husband #2 of 3 [I was #1], she developed a fear of flying, to the point, she wouldn't fly to Maui/Molokai for her daughter's wedding, even though I offered to pay, and escort her on the flights.

Seriously, if you do have a fear of flying, I suggest you get help. There is sooo much to the world, both above and below the water line, which should be experienced.

ps - self driving vehicles???

Time on earth is precious, time underwater even more so. Live life one day at a time. Dive your @$$ off!!!

FROM FACEBOOK:

Mike aka AirEater Any middle seats.....then the window

Kim:   Row in front of exit row. Seats won't recline1f61e.png

Joan Aisle seat in Last row in front of the toilet on a long flight. No recline, people standing around you and leaning over you, and the toilet reeks halfway into the flight!

Fred  Use seatguru.com! It helps with the subtle differences on each aircraft and each airline. I use it for almost every flight.

How about the seat that the big inflight entertainment box in it? It takes up all your space for a small bag AND leg room. :(

Actually my rant was tongue in cheek - but your reply left me in stitches. In 20 years of Navy life stationed mostly overseas, I have logged a ton of air travel both military and commercial. I will and do fly, but I have lost patience with both the industry and the process and do not see signs that would lead to a change in attitude.

Those drives to the Keys provide a week's worth of local driving access without renting - and I actually enjoy "motoring" the highways and byways (well except for construction or holiday traffic). No perfect solutions, only options of diminishing desirability.

It is true I have a generous dose of acrophobia woven deep in my DNA; in an effort to get over that, I actually took flight lessons and completed 40 hours dual, 40 hours solo and written flight school requirements in Spain 1987-88. (The cross country check off included a drop in over the mountains to land in Grenada - THAT was an E ticket ride I will tell you!) As luck would have it, the only FAA licensed examiner that serviced Rota naval base was stationed in Germany and did not make it down before I rotated back Stateside. That's when U.S. private plane rental prices left me with enough sticker shock to skip the final test.

Heavy Irony Dept.: The flight training did not alleviate my fear of heights, but instead revealed so much of what can go wrong on any flight that I truly am more averse to flying than before. The icing on that cake has come with TSA and Immigration hassles. *shrugs* I know, I know, it is what it is. Quick reply to Scott aka Cmdr Clownfish, yes I know all about about GOES but don't fly out of country enough to justify (for me at least) the paperwork and expense. That said, I have watched with envy as eligible passengers whisked through Immigration and I certainly recommend it to those who would regularly benefit.

Again I will and do fly, and these days a dive trip is my sole sufficient motivator. Witness my SD trips list - Saba, Turks, Belize *2, Cozumel *2 (both 2016) in addition to South Florida and before that NC, so no worries on that score. WesPac / IO trips are prohibitively expensive on my retired Swabbie budget though, so be sure to post plenty of pics and vids so I can at least experience those great sites vicariously... :teeth:

Let me add personally that it is great to see you have pulled through your medical challenges and apparently have scored a green light to return to diving! :diver: It was wonderful to learn of your daughter's new life chapter of marital bliss (I followed on FB and posted my congratulations directly there) Lastly, please accept my Best Christmas Wishes to you and your entire family. (Hmmm, no appropriate holiday Meme or Emoji handy so will leave with this:)

Oh yeah, P.S. to your ps - Not sure what you were driving at there (oohhh, I just SLAY me) but I will continue to hold out for the George Jetson spacecraft that folds into a briefcase. ;)

Actually I do not fly overseas enough to justify it either.  But without it going through Miami is a crapshoot and that limits flight options dramatically.  The bigger reason is there is somebody else by my name that the US government wants to talk to, BADLY, and they think its me every time I reenter the country.  I had to put my fingerprints on file so I could scanned and let back into my own country without being lead into another line for interrogation and miss my flight.  Same problem buying a gun, I'm considered a risk and have to provide prints and wait months each time for them to decide I'm not who they think. By then the shop has given up and canceled the order.  Odd thing is, my identity has not been stolen... they just group everybody with the same name into one pot and the worst guy in that pot sets the bar for what everyone else by that name will experience.  This is by design.  So that is the main reason I have GOES.
