When is the best time to book a flight to Bonaire for this trip?  Thanks!

It depends... they have cut flights back to Bonaire so now they penalize early bookers, mid stream bookers and all but those who book late. Set up a fare watch with say kayak.com and they will help you figure out the best time to buy...or wait.

No a question but a vent!

We are still 4+ months out and already my travel plans are getting the run around.  I am booked on the InSel 10:15 flight on the 18th to CUR.  I just got the message that they have so kindly re-booked me to a flight that gets to CUR after my connection to Canada leaves.  Now I have to fight with them to get a booking that works.  Fun and Games already!

And on the eighth day, God said "OK, Murphy, you take over."

Dang, tough break John - I wonder if the itinerary change is a ripple effect from the regional carriers reconstructing their overall schedules due to Irma and Maria damages to airports in the Caribbean. Good luck with rebuilding your flight plans, we will watch your MY TRIPS Flight Info for a fresh upload when ready.

And that was quick - an email to InSel and they inform me that I am back on the 10:15 flight.  Apparently they changed the flight numbers on their flights and the existing reservations followed the numbers to different times.  They moved me back to the 10:15 flight under a different flight number, so all is good (until the next change somewhere in the chain!).

Will we have a truck to use to get to some of the shore diving sites, or do we need to rent one when we get there?

Hello Nancy, the segment below was copied from the information box that opens by clicking the purple lettered OPTIONS & EXTRAS link on the Bonaire Trip Page of the SingleDivers.com Home Page. There is a lot of useful information under each of those purple lettered links - we encourage everyone to read them for each trip, even the SD veterans! :)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RENTAL TRUCKS - If you are doing the shore diving only pkg. and want to rent a truck for the week to share with a total of 4 people the price is approx $350-$375 (subject to change), which includes the taxes but does not include insurance. This is via Hertz which is right on property. You can often get good rates via the airport as well.

Thanks, Brad!  I'm doing the boat dives, just wondered if after the boat dives are done for the day, we might be able to rent a truck to get to some of the shore diving at other locations on the island...I've never been to Bonaire, not quite sure how all that works, or if it would even be feasible after a full day of boat dives.

I'm not sure if it is feasible - we get back from the afternoon dive in the 3:30-4:00 range.  Factor in loading and driving time and you are quite late in the day.

If I remember correctly, sometimes people will do a "drop-off" dive during the boat trip back and get dropped a few hundred metres out and swim back to the dock.  The house reef is quite extensive and can be done multiple times as an afternoon / evening / night / dawn dive. I will be doing both drop-off and dock dives throughout the week.  Join me! Or you can "waste" valuable diving time by having an adult beverage with the group. :-)

If you did rent a truck you would probably only use it for 1 dive per day, making the cost about $70 per dive (split between up to 4 people).  If you do go this route, remember to not leave ANYTHING in the truck you can't stand to lose.  And leave the door unlocked and the window down.
