Hey gang...we have worked out a great deal and opportunity with the Cozumel Marine Conservation team to offer a two part program for our Single's Week.

 

1. We will present as part of our Single's Week a short FREE program on Cozumel's Coral Restoration program as part of our LOADED SINGLE'S WEEK!!!  The date will be advised a bit later.

2. You can listen to a 2nd lecture about Cozumel's Coral Restoration program AND participate in the necessary dives AND earn a special participation award.

You can donate ANY amount you like to the program even if you do not wish to full participate in the program but want to help with the cause.

Description:

The Cozumel Coral Reef Restoration Program offers certified divers the introduction to Coral Reef Conservation through academic sessions, hands-on practice, and open-water training beach dives.  You will become a volunteer for the coral restoration efforts that are taking place outside the Cozumel National Marine Park boundaries.

 

Objectives:  Locate live, broken organisms and rescue the fragments of hard coral along the shallow shore areas.  Transport and fix the colonies in the quarantine areas for care and propagation, and prepare them to be relocated to the restoration sites. There is an option to do a one-day or two-day program – please see below for details on each.

 

Details:

Participants will learn about and gain hands-on experience with:

  • Coral reef conservation
  • The nature and importance of coral reefs
  • Marine life on coral reefs
  • Coral reefs in peril
  • Protecting the living coral reefs
  • Artificial reefs and artificial marine habitats
  • The collection and transport of live coral fragments
  • Handling live coral fragments
  • Care and propagation techniques
  • Diving procedures involved in this work
  • Handling of coral “holders”
  • The use of epoxy clay and tools for restoration
  • Data collection protocol and execution
  • The preparation and transport of organism in the Restoration area

Cozumel Coral Reef Restoration: One-day Program

2 Tank Beach dives

Location: Casa del Mar /  reef restoration area

Included:

  • 6 Hours
  • One academic session
  • 2 Open Water Dives; Tanks and weight included
  • Beach dives
  • Materials and Training aids.
  • Certificate of participation

 

Not Included:

  • Diving Equipment (BCD, Reg, Fins Mask, Wet suit) *Available for rent
  • Under Water Camera

Cozumel Coral Reef Restoration: Two-day Program

4 Tank Beach dives

Cozumel Island, Paradise north reef restoration

 

Included:

  • 14 Hours
  • Two academic sessions
  • 4 Open Water Dives; Tanks and weight included
  • Beach dives
  • Materials and Training aids.
  • Certificate of participation

 

Not Included:

  • Diving Equipment (BCD, Reg, Fins Mask, Wet suit) *Available for rent
  • Under Water Camera

Meeting Point:

The Coral Reef Restoration programs take place near the Paradise-north restoration area, which is in the Southern hotel zone of Cozumel, near the International Piers and the north end of the Marine Park zone. We will provide further information regarding the location and arrange the best meeting points at the time of booking and payments.

 

Prices & Policies:

Reservations and Deposits:

  • Reservations should be made at least 7 days in advance, but given the specialized nature of this experience, longer-lead reservations are strongly encouraged, to make sure the program is available at your preferred time, and arrangements, materials and personnel are available.
  • Deposits must be paid via our PayPal to secure any booking (We will offer several payment options for our members)
  • Cancellations made more than 48 hours in advance will be refunded; deposits for “no-shows” or cancellations within 24-48 hours of the start time will not be refunded

Accessibility Info & Important Notes:

This is an instructional course, resulting in a certificate of participation, acknowledgement by PADI, etc. As such, it is for certified divers – Open Water Certified, and above. Please get in touch for all information, and to make adequate arrangements for you and your fellow divers.
