Greetings All:

I reading trip reviews of the resort on Trip Advisor, I came across a tidbit about alcohol at the resort. The Manager, in responding to a review, stated:

"Also good to know, you can prepurchase drink cards which are a great value if you like mixed drinks, wine, or menu cocktails like margaritas or pina coladas. You prepay in US dollars about $9.60 per drink including gratuity. For 7-night stays, a 21-drink card is currently $202. On island the rates are in CI $ and are equivalent to about $12.50 USD plus gratuity. Just ask when you book."

Curious, I called the resort and sure enough it is a pre-purchase deal; so I signed up. One note: apparently both people sharing a room must have the same drink package so if you are sharing room; both people must have the package. Although maybe Kamala could work out something with the resort if only one of you wanted to get the package.

Starshark

The resort just sent me the info on this new option and being on trips the past several weeks I have not had a chance to post it. Tks Scott!!

I can certainly get you all signed up and would be happy to do so HOWEVER there is no exceptions on the 'both have to be in the same room and both have to agree to the drink pkg'. I have argued when two people have different bills it should not matter but alas some 'single' arguments will always lose to the 'couples' mentality.

So unless you are doing a single room OR are coming as a couple...we can't help you get this UNLESS your roommate wants to do it too. And for that you need to know your roommate...so

Shy of posting rooming assignments right now... let us know if you want to do the drink pkg. Maybe we can chg roommates to accommodate or if there aren't that many interested that is fine too.

We can also get those signed up who are doing single rooms.

Another option.... get booze in duty free and we can do our famous Chez Neil Happy Hours which is what many people do anyway. There is a local store on the island where the dive guides get booze and snacks if you don't bring your own.

Yes either Grand Cayman or Fl depending on your final departure city to the islands. ACTUALLY LET ME CHECK... there may be an issue since its a small flight and all flights route to GCM.

I will say NO on the drinks package unless they have something for maybe ONE beverage daily--non alcoholic (which would include soda or juice). Otherwise duty free or DIY options sound good. Thanks. Cynthia/Nautiilus

My preference would be duty free if possible or buy local and supply our own for happy hour.

GunnaBDiver? and I are going to pass on the drink package.  We are going to pick up a bottle of good Gin and probably a bottle of good rum in duty free.

Some news on DUTY FREE at Grand Cayman airport.

I looked at airport website and then got this reply by email.

At present there are no retail or duty free stores open within the Airport due to the on-going renovations but I believe that there are Duty Free retailers which you can contact for purchase of certain items once you prove that you are a visitor.  Your airline can better inform you on those options.

At the moment, there is a restaurant (Hungry Horse) temporarily situated outside the airport over in the parking area but no duty free vendors until completion of the airport renovation.

One more week till splashdown!! --Cynthia/Nautilus

That's good info! Our routing is BWI GCI non stop then on to Little Cayman.  Once thru security at BWI we'll get booze and chocolate!!

BOOZE UPDATE:

  • Ok so there is a local store and you can get reasonably priced booze there.
  • You can get duty free in GCM (not sure about MIA since all MIA flights route via Cayman Brac and they may not let you carry the booze on the plane to Little. You may have to add it to your checked bag but you would have already paid luggage fees in MIA or GCM so you should be ok.
  • You can buy the booze pkg AT CHECK IN for the pre-island price as long as you DO NOT SHARE IT WITH ANYONE ELSE. They will be monitoring and its kinda embarrassing to get busted by the booze patrol so please do not abuse this exception as they have NEVER offered it before.
