Last years on new years eve I was in Bombay (Mumbai) India, about one month into my year of travel. I had agreed to meet a male friend in Bombay, who had some connections and was able to get us tickets to one of the more elite (Bollywood stars and all that) parties. We were staying at the Taj, he in the heritage section, me in the tower. Just 2 nights previous we had met these two wonderful woman from Denmark. Since we already had seperate plans for the night, there was some question as to weather or not we were going to meet up later. Over lunch my friend and i discussed the range of possible and he expressed a huge interest in sharing a little more privacy than a mega-party...so we ended meeting up with the Danes and having room service send two bottles of Champagne to his room. now the heritage wing of the Taj hotel in Mumbai is absolutely gorgeous...the rooms view looked out over Mumbai harbor and the gateway of India. Lets just say that the private party of 4 was much better than the Goan trance and techno grind of the party...and I was lucky enough to get that midnight kiss from my Danish friend Anja...its a memory I cherish...

So, just like most of you, I'm preparing for the last night out for this year. I was thinking about last year and how great it was and thinking about this new years (without much prospect) and I was wondering how important you think a midnight kiss is to a good year?

Better not be important here, either. Actually, I have the gone the last few years without, so I don't think that another year or two will hurt anything.

I think thats a woman thing...the difference between kisses and KISSES...

I've always been disappointed by the New Years kiss. I guess I've seen too many movies. I'd like a kiss that makes me swoon, but usually it's one step above a peck. Maybe this year will be better.

I guess I've seen too many movies.

Me too! I love the part in When Harry Met Sally at the end on New Year's Eve where Billy Crystal runs through NY to find Meg Ryan and says to her:

"... And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it's not because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible."

Followed by the compulsory Hollywood kiss. It kind of sets expectations too high in one's mind. Still a great flick though!
I tried to contain myself, but I escaped!

I would have settled for a midnight hug last night! Unfortunately despite the fact we had a good time seeing in the New Year (Xiaoyan even got me on stage to sing karaoke... and no one left afterwards, at least not immediately), she wouldn't even stand at midnight and give me a hug.

A KISS? Wow, I'm not sure I remember what one is like!! At least the diving is good and the skies are clear and sunny today. I'll settle for the taste of my regulator on New Years.

I'm with WW on this one.

My New Year's eve would still be just fine without a kiss, but......I guess being a romantic at heart, I think a New Years kiss is a fantastic way to start a New Year - but only meaningful if it's someone who is a KISS (not just a kiss) :cool1: The same is true for the mistletoe, etc..

Nothing is sexier than a good kisser!
