Hey gang...I know many of you will be in Bali a few days prior as a travel buffer before our trip and for some a few days after to facilitate flights etc.
There are a million things to do in Bali...well maybe not that many but certainly a ton. Bali is an icon and epic adventure just by itself. By opening this topic you can share what you want to do... suggest ideas or options and hopefully we can lock in some options while we await our upcoming trip.
KEEP IN MIND the more flexible your plans are the better given the erratic nature of flight changes etc. that have occurred and may continue to occur.
To get you started here are several broad ideas for you to consider:
1. If you want to plan in advance then ViaTours is a great resource and tool. They educate you on what is available and what they have found to be successful and they include English Speaking tour guides, transport etc plus the ability to pay upfront and 'be locked in'. They also get great reviews and allow you to see reviews of their tours.
2. Every hotel in Bali (and every taxi driver including our vetted ones from the airport if we have arranged your hotel i.e. the group hotel) offer tours to tourists. Bali is an iconic tourist mecca and most people speak excellent English and LOVE sharing their country with you. These can be set up on a more fluid basis once you know if you have experienced any travel delays, have gotten enough rest and know if others plan to join you or not.
3. Erica has friends in Bali and has brought with her several friends and her husband on this epic trip. She posted the following details in the TRIP PM which I am moving to the topic you are reading to allow for discussion and participation. THANK YOU ERICA for all your help!
Hi everyone, crazy times..... hopefully we will all make it too Bali and escape US craziness in Raja for awhile. It getting hard to figure out who is who with Kamala using our real names and the software using our nicknames. This is erica aka Zinfandel and I am arriving in Bali on April 11 (earlier based on earlier plans which have changed... but anyway) I have good friends/family in Bali who live 30 min from Ubud and 2-3 hours from airport. they have accommodations for up to 5 pairs in 5 airbnbs around their home. For those of you arriving on the 14th, you do not want to stay in an hotel near the airport for 2 days, Bali is amazing and Kuta Beach and the areas near the airport are the worst places to stay, its the only area (and downtown Ubud) that are over touristy, potentially unsafe and do not represent the real Balinese culture at all. It looks like many of you are arriving in Bali on the 14th. You can of course do whatever you want but if you're interested in 2 days of experiencing what Bali is really like I can have someone pick you up at the airport and bring you to the village where me, my husband and Curt and Carolyn will be staying. In a couple of days you can go to morning market, experience awesome food, taste local coffee and tea, go to a traditional dance performance, visit a temple, walk in the rice fields, shop and have the worlds best coconut ice cream and more........ or sit on the deck of your cottage, eat mangos and watch the rice grow and listen to the song of the geckos and frogs. It's $50 for airport pic up, you can figure $50-90 a day for food and lodging, its a cheap place to stay, eat and entertain yourself.
But I do need to know if anyone is interested, so I can tell my friend to hold the airbnb cottages for the 14th, 15th and 16th. He will get us all back to the airport for our flight to Sarong on the 17th. Namaste erica
ps if you want to check out where I am talking about on FaceBook earth for Dek Bud, Seany San (Dek's wife) And Dek Bud Bali tours. for more photos you can check the FB page SoulCollage in Bali
4. Gayle and Marcia have great ideas on what they want to see and would love to have others join them and will most likely be at the 'group hotel' with the bulk of us including myself. I hope they share their ideas with you as well.
5. We have TONS of members who had traveled with SD.com or others to Raja and stayed in Bali so have had amazing experiences with either Viatour or local tour operators via the hotels (including the 3 hotels we have reservations at) as well as freelance tour guides. I hope they can share with you that as well.
If there was a silver lining about the travel craziness right now it is a reduction in tourism so you should be able to get great deals on property and have lots of options to choose from since many people will cancel travel during this time.
So I hope this helps gets the discussion going. Thanks to all...its going to be EPIC!!! Kamala
