Some of you may even know the original quote our topic line is based upon.   Bonus points if you do and post it!

 

With EVERYTHING heading more and more towards technology for solutions and services...we've been asked by many of our members if we will ever develop an app for SingleDivers.com.  And while the first challenge would be to figure out what it would do..the second challenge would be to figure out how to build it. So assuming we can figure out how to do #2.... we are asking you all to help us figure out #1.

 

So if SingleDivers.com had an app...WHAT WOULD IT DO???

I have to say that I'm a bit against the app, largely because I like the website so much! There are the forums and trip updates. Plus, many posts have pics, which are much easier to see on a computer screen.

 

Every airline has an app, every hotel chain has an app, every credit card issuer has an app. I literally have to do a search to find an app because while I try to keep everything organized, sometimes I forget where I put them. Each app has to compete for a coveted frequently used spot on my home page or be relegated to a folder. It's far easier for me to just start typing single into Safari, because it automatically knows where I'm going!

I confess to have one foot in each camp - well produced apps can simplify and streamline booking processes, but I agree with Tomi that for promotions and general member interaction the Forums are better suited. I've heard suggestions that other media platforms like FB might expand visibility HOWEVER there is a downside to having to abide by standards and limitations not focused on our own interests. It should be interested to see how this topic develops!

The way I understand it ...apps can be used for several things... basically allowing you to do business on the phone easier or giving you say last minute information such as dive deals more readily. Or use it to do the trip communications vs trying to do the PM's or text groups etc. (We know our forums are hard to log into via most mobile phones so that was another reason people thought an app would help.) Again.... IF we can figure out the technology as to how to do it and pay for it... we still need a compelling reason to have one other than to be trendy like everyone else.

 

So thanks for the feedback so far...I am hoping for a LOT more input. Thanks, Kamala
