Minnesota Fats and Crabby Lady need room for 23th
Thanks Chris, I will update the Extra Nights section of the Add Ons list with this request for you and Peggy. Remember this does NOT yet mean Kamala has made the necessary reservations, but it gets the process going. That will follow and if it does not over the ensuing week or two, it would not be a bad idea to remind us here or via email to trips@singledivers.com ...
Finally broken to plow and harnessed to the traces. How may I help you today? Questions welcomed to charlies@singledivers.com

For all of you lucky people that are going on this trip of a lifetime, it is now only about 6 weeks out. Having made the trip about a year ago, I will pass along a few thoughts.
While diving at Wolf and Darwin, you will drift along until the dive guide signals everyone to settle into a spot on the wall. At Wolf, it was more of a sloping wall with large boulders. It will be suggested that you check for urchins and morays before putting your hands and feet somewhere. There will also be areas with barnacles that will tear up your gloves. I bought some mechanics gloves from Home Depot (synthetic leather, brand name HARDY ). I do not see them at Home Depot or Lowes anymore, but see something similar at Amazon ( https://www.amazon.c...y,aps,89&sr=8-8 ). They held up wonderfully for the whole trip, and do not look any worse for it. As for Darwin, we were more on the top of the wall edge, and holding against a surge. Good gloves are important.
The next thought is about one of the main reasons that you are going there. Hammerhead sharks. To me, they are a mixture between shy and curious. If you are looking at them, they will keep a distance. If they can come up behind you, they will get a lot closer. That leads me to a couple of things. As a photographer, I want to be CLOSE. I learned some things my first trip there, and more during the week of my second trip. Number one, let them come to you. When you settle into a spot, settle into it. Get relaxed, quiet and move slowly. Figure out the path that most of the sharks are taking. Do not look that direction, as they will get closer to you if you are not looking at them. If the sharks were a distance away, I often faced the opposite direction for a minute. Then I would try to look out of the side of my mask as best I could, and slowly turn my head towards their direction to see how close they were getting. As they get close enough, I would then slowly bring the camera up, and slowly turn. towards the shark for a picture. It seemed to be a fairly productive approach.
Another important thing to be aware of is your location. Everyone will settle into their spot and wait for the sharks. On most dives, someone else is going to be in a " BETTER " spot than you are, and more sharks will seem to be coming closer to that person. If you move next to that person, the sharks will change their route. I have seen that happen on almost every dive. Once or twice, I was the person that moved, and ended the photo ops for someone else. I quickly learned not to do that again. Several times, I had the spot until someone else joined me there. The sharks will definitely get closer if there is only one person in a spot, and will almost always move away from a spot if a second person decides to move there. On some dives, the deeper spots were the best. On other dives, the shallower spots were better.

Its $155 credit or $150 cash. It looks like you got signed up and found it in the order system. Thank you.
