I did a 3 mile walk this morning, and a 2 mile walk this afternoon.

That's a lot of walking.

I 'ran' for an airplane.... then 'ran' around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to find a seat...then 'ran' to the curb to catch my ride so I could 'sit' in the hospital room with my mom.

However there is no food here so at least I'm offsetting caloric intake.

After a retinal detachment at Halloween then a small bout with Omicron in January, I was away from walking and resistance training for three months.  I've lost the momentum and I need to get it back.  Scheduled a Zoom resistance session tomorrow with Carol.  Kamala asked for her link.....here it is.  https://www.youtube....MichaelsFitness

She focuses on exercises safe for those with osteoporosis (and other back issues), and cancer survivors.  I highly recommend Carol.  I work out with her one day a week in person on Zoom, and then have a couple playlists created in my YouTube account of the 100+ FREE snippets of resistance and weight training.  She uses hand weights and resistance bands mostly, and sometimes a step, stability ball, and sliders.

Hey girl...so great to hear from you again and :thankyou: for the link! I plan to look her up. You know we ALL need to start reversing the hands of time... and I've learned watching my mom fall and break her hip... the #1 indicator of successfully getting OUT OF A HOSPITAL is NOT

  • age
  • the abilities of your doctors
  • your determination
  • how severe your injury or illness is...

NO ITS SIMPLY HOW MUCH LEAN BODY MASS YOU HAVE BEFORE THE INJURY OR ILLNESS. Since we lose a certainl % every year its high time we start reversing this trend WHILE WE CAN!!

So start simply with wall pushups and isometric exercises and then start increasing the weight bearing and weight training. Cardio is fine but it does not build muscle. YOU MUST FIND WAYS TO BUILD MUSCLE!!!

So its great to hear you finding ways to recover that lost muscle mass.... YAY!!! Kamala

A few things kept me from getting out and walking the last few days, but I did get a couple of shorter walks in today totaling 2.5 miles.  I am also doing a little on the weight machine the last couple of days.  Ed

WOW you are getting it going! That is great!

I'm lagging a bit too trying to help my mom start the long process of transitioning back to her home after hip surgery. She is still waking up several times a night needing pain meds so that means I'm waking up several times a night as well. Will try to get a walk in at least today...

I got three walks in yesterday.  A 3-mile morning walk, and 2- and 1.5-mile afternoon walks.  Today I did the 3-mile morning walk and a 2-mile afternoon walk.  My goal is 4-5 miles per day when able, and about 25 miles per week.

Trying to squeeze in exercise and good lifestyle habits is hard enough when you are not taking taking care of someone around the clock. But watching an otherwise vibrant person struggle to do the simplest of things after an injury impresses upon me that TODAY is the day to start doing better no matter how small and how simple the results.  Tomorrow could be the day you fall, or are in an accident and find out that you can't recover like you should. The bottom line is that EVERY DAY YOU ARE NOT BUILDING MUSCLE...YOU ARE LOSING IT. So every day you need to decide to build some muscle vs losing it.

  1. Yesterday I did 50 wall push ups in 2 sets of 25 in the am and the pm.
  2. I did 20 squats in the am and 10 in the pm. (Yikes they suck)
  3. And I walked about 1/4 of a mile. Yeah not much but I want to focus on muscle building vs cardio.
  4. I also did my lower back strengthening and conditioning exercises. Man was I overdue on them.

I'll record today when I finish it.

I did 3 mile walks in the morning and afternoon yesterday as well as today.  I have also been doing a little daily work out on the weight machine now that I am not using it to hang clothes on anymore.

Yesterday I got in 2 reps of 25 strenuous wall push ups in the am and the pm.

I got in 2 sets of squats in the am and in the pm.

I walked about .5 mile.

Not much but a start and doing something everyday is important since I'm inclined to ignore my needs helping someone else.

Ed gets the PERSEVERANCE AWARD!!! :wakawaka:

I'm still languishing trying to get going but have started my intermittent fasting again so that is helping a lot. And sneaking in a few push ups and squats... not as consistent as I was...lack of sleep is not helping. LOL!
