When I look at the scale, I feel the same way about exercise being for chumps.  Then I think about the fact that I did a lot of regular walking prior to my Galapagos trip last Spring, and I felt so much better in the water on that trip.  Air consumption was a lot better than it was in Roatan in January.  Getting back into the boat was easy.  Stick with it, it will pay off in more ways than what the scale tells you right now.

Chris...muscle weighs 2x the amt of fat. So as you build muscle the scales will not budge...however your pants will start to get looser. Keep up the exercise. It always takes LONGER when you are within 20% of your ideal weight/goals. And make sure to include some weight bearing exercise and not just cardio.  I know you have lost a lot of weight and so I'm sure you are leaning out with add'l muscle and you are definitely within 20% of your ideal weight! Keep up the good work! You are looking great! (Unless you blew up after the holidays cuz you looked great at Thanksgiving!)  :respect:

Is your waist getting smaller? Are you getting leaner? Toner? If you looked the way you wanted in the mirror would you care about what you weighed? Its just a number... one data point. What's important is how the OTHER markers of health are? AND that you are moving in the right direction. Many are doing nothing and every day of nothing is the wrong direction. As I'm learning with my mom... each day you can build muscle or lose it. There is no in between. So doing everything you can to build muscle helps you!

You are doing great Chris, and I am glad you are sticking with it.  When I was young, getting into shape seemed like it only took about an hour.  Unfortunately, that is no longer the case and it now seems like getting into shape is impossible.  I am encouraging my mom to get regular exercise, and eat better.  It is not so much for her to get into shape at her age as it is to slow down the process of her getting further out of shape each year.  For me, I am setting reasonable goals.  I am not expecting to have a complete transformation. Instead, losing a bit of weight ( I have ), keeping a regular exercise schedule ( I have ) and feeling a little better ( I am ) is the goal.  I am also finding that following the schedule has me looking at adding a little along the way.  I am following the info from the health post that Kamala put out HERE.  That has me changing my eating habits which will add to the benefit I am getting from the exercise.  Small steps, and stay steady.  Ed
