Any tips for packing for this newbie? Im generally pretty good at packing, but this is the first dive trip Ive been on. I have been on trips where I dove, but that wasnt the focus. I also have my gear now. If will be my first time to travel with BCD, regulator and dive watch.

Also, any tips for packing/luggage specific to Roatan travel is welcome also.

I usually do tons of research leading up to a trip, but I bought a house and just moved. My gear and papers were the first thing packed for moving, but Ive been very busy with house things. If anyone has tips to share that are more detailed for this thread, feel free to PM me.

Yes I will be posting in the next few days some great tips for packing as well as other things that will be very useful. I'll start doing all those posts this weekend!

But quickly... bc and regs can be packed although some people like to hand carry regs. For sure you hand carry dive watch and many people hand carry their mask especially if it fits perfectly... you won't find one like that in a rental pool of masks...so the rule of thumb is...if its high value or is PERFECT for you...then hand carry. Otherwise you can pack it.

How I pack for a Dive Trip:

I take on plane with me Carry on and Personal Bag: Regulators, Dive Light, Dive Computer, Mask, Laptop, Folder (with all trip info in it), Ball Cap, Camera Gear (Camera/strobes/Housing/Chargers with extra batteries in them, rubber band holding batteries in place).

Jacket-Pass Port and Dive Cert Cards.

I check two bags, it is cheaper to have two bags than one overweight bag.  For me to keep under 50 pounds I have to skimp a little on extra emergency spare gear, I carry a few tools also.

I pack my dive gear first, then I pack my clothes in an around dive gear, distribute weight between the two bags.  Remember on the way home your gear will be a little heavier from being damp, you may also buy a souvenir or two.   Clothes are over rated and I am not worried about impressing anyone.  Most of the time I will be in swim shorts and dive gear.  I only wear socks travelling to and fro dive destination.  A few T shirts, a few beach shirts, a few pairs of underwear (they are only on a few hours a day)  I have some rash guards that will be just fine to wear to dinner.  Bring a small bottle of Woolite that way if you need to you can wash a few items in your bathroom sink. Toiletries and I am good.  I always bring a couple kitchen sized garbage bags for anything that is still wet, or sometimes to something in that I want to keep dry, depends on situation.

Is it recommended to get Lempiras? I know USD should be undamaged bills and of smaller denominations. Thanks!

The dollar is accepted at most places there.  The only time you would need local currency is if you are going to some remote place, ie, local selling out of their house.  As we are taking a boat to an island that the resort is on, and most of what we are doing will be directly from the resort, I have no intention of converting any money personally.  Ed

I signed up for the guided night dive. I just saw the lists shows you must have done a night dive prior to this. I have not done one before. Will I still be able to go?

I don't see my flight details listed in the latest post. Please let me know if you need that information from me. I'm on the same flights in and out as Laticia aka dive mom.

Hi Roberta,

Sorry or the oversight, we thought we had corrected this already but with the flurry of last minute updates from other members it must have been overwritten, apologies for any concern or confusion. We def have our flight submission downloaded by us 24 Nov.

Doing a night dive is not simply a day dive in the dark...there are a lot of other factors involved that require special training. If we can hire an instructor to do that training for you then yes you can do that dive. If you are relying on a buddy or even your Rent A Buddy to do that training then its beyond the scope of the RAB program (mentoring vs instruction) and its way beyond what you would expect of a non professional dive buddy.

If you want to try and do it I can ask about hiring an instructor for you. I am leading the guided night dive unless I can hire a member of the staff to lead it for me. That precludes me from being your buddy for that dive UNLESS you've done night dives before.   I hope that makes sense to you and other newer divers who have not done a night dive yet but wanted to join in.

Yes, if someone is willing to teach me whether SD members or
Staff at resort, that would be great. I understand if it doesnt happen.
