Hello everyone,

I'm an American art historian/curator based currently in the UK. I've taken early retirement and am now looking to spend a large part of my life travelling and diving the world. Over the last two years, I've spent a lot of my time dive training in Egypt and this summer I worked on a shipwreck archaeology project for two months in Honduras as an underwater artist, helping to create the first map of the circa 1750s wreck site. I've just started learning more about photographing marine life underwater and am enjoying it immensely. I'm an advanced PADI diver with over 250 dives in the US, Europe (Spain, UK, Turkey) Egypt, Thailand, Mauritius, and Honduras, but would love to dive in many more counties, especially with other divers who are familiar with these areas. I'm very excited to join the group and you seem to have some wonderful trips planned.

Hello again Julie and again welcome aboard! :welcome: The enviable selection of warm water dive meccas conjured by fearless leader Kamala aka WreckWench :blond:  (the blonde emoji was created just for her) constitute a well vetted and regularly visited list, so our more senior members as well as "The Wench" tend to be repeat attendees quite familiar in addition to our associate operators.

Your impressive dive and archeology summary puts you in good stead here, as many of our member are also well seasoned, well traveled divers. Can you share with us the area in Honduras where you were documenting the shipwreck? Sounds amazing!

We look forward to having you select and join a trip with us soon! :diver:

Hello Charlie,

Thank you very much for your warm welcome to the group! I was actually in Utila for the project, so just a short ferry ride from Roatan. The UK-based Wreckhunters project was started by quite an amazing man named Mike Haigh to teach divers the skills needed for underwater archaeology. As he says, it is far easier to turn a diver into an archaeologist than an archaeologist into a diver. This past season was kind of a 'pre training' to identify key people for specified roles in the project for next summer when the formal course will begin.

I'm planning to return next summer, so maybe I can meet up with you guys on either end of the existing trip? That would be great.

Hello Julie, and welcome to SingleDivers.  I found the group about 13 years ago, and have been on about 30 trips with them since then ( currently finishing up a trip in Dominica ).  Everyone was very welcoming and helpful from day one, which has led me to so many return trips with the group.  Kamala runs many trips to fabulous destinations, and the members are great.  Between Kamala and her helpers, Brad, Butch, Kathy, etc... all of the details both large and small are handled for us.   love the fact that I can just sign up for a trip, make my payment, book my flights,  and basically everything else gets taken care of.  I just show up in vacation mode and dive.  Ed

Hi Julie, and welcome to Singledivers.com!! I am currently on Puerta Vallarta, not diving, just vacationing and showing my brother a good time sitting out a hurricane. Luckily it mostly passed us, just some mighty winds and rain. I joined SD in its early stages and love diving with Kamela and crew. Your diving resume is awesome, some of my favorite places. Underwater archeology would be very cool. As Brad and Ed have said Kamala and crew put together the best trips (Brad) being apart of that crew . Hope you are able to join on one soon.

:welcome: Julie we are THRILLED you found us! Do you know when your class is next year in Roatan? I have a NYE trip to Roatan but nothing else until 2024. I may be able to squeeze one in if I know when you'll be there for your class!

So glad you found us. We will so enjoy getting to know more about the project you are working on and others like it. Who knows...maybe we will have more divers wanting to be 'ship finders' in our group! We have over 10,000 members from over 35 countries so its certainly possible.

I'm pretty positive I know the wreck you are getting to work on and its fascinating! But there are more to be found there so it could be a different one for sure.

Cheers for finding us and thank you for such a warm introduction to our fun and friendly dive club on "steroids"!  Kamala
