October is the end of Hurricane Season and the time to find artificacts...or whatever the strorms have uncovered! The festival offers food, fun, festivities including live bands, fireworks, games and lots of other attractions! You won't want to miss this one!

Sept 29th Thursday Travel Day
Sept 30th Friday Diving Day
Oct 1-2 Saturday and Sunday Diving Days
Oct 3rd Monday Travel Day

The water is still warm and the clear...the air temps are still warm generally in the 70's and sometimes 80's... bottom temps...78-80 and 60-70+ ft of vis! Not bad if they were hit by hurricanes...even more vis if the coast was spared from direct hits! 3 years ago we found porcelain...2 years ago we found sterling silver forks and spoons...and last year we found another brass ammo locker hatch and loads of small calibre ammo. :cool1:

Hey gang! ONLY 18 TOTAL can do this trip!!! Diving on History in North Carolina is a once in a lifetime dive (ok twice for some of us!!!) you have to do at LEAST once!!! But I'll warn you...when you find out that there is Caribbean water with HUGE animal encounters and the most incredible wrecks that you can dive on or in...you may just get 'hooked' like some of us near and dear to you...ahem...me!

What You’ll See:

REAL WWI and WWII shipwrecks…..sunk as early as 1918
The U-352….the second U-Boat sunk by the US in WWII and the ONLY U-Boat in warm, clear diveable waters!
Numerous U-Boat victims (not bodies) who fought valiantly for our freedoms!
Large animals such as Huge Southern Stingrays, Barracudas, Grouper, Amberjack, and yes SHARKS!!!

(Please note that we ask for 40+ dives and adv open water or equilivent in experience as these wrecks are 80-125ft in depth. The water temps are 70-80 degrees and vis is 60-70ft depending on direct storm hits No wreck certfication is required however the standard nitrox blend is 30%. Most wrecks do NOT have penetration opportunities and you must be specially trained to attempt a wreck penetration. Many of the wrecks have light passthru's where you can swim in and out to the light on the other side. Most of the wrecks are scattered due to frequent storms or if inshore cable layered to prevent hazards to shipping.)

See full package details below these summaries.

Hey cutie...sorry I missed this post! Do you need the airfare to RDU or just the price once you fly into RDU? If the latter its 740 diver d/o less any membership discounts.

I'll put your name on the list...along with another person already making Oct plans!

Hi WW,

Back from Bonaire one week and looking to go again. :diver: I'm interested in the October NC trip and have been checking into air fare. I'd also like to look at driving down but don't know where exactly the trip is out of. Could you give me some specifics like address of the hotel or dive operation so I can check on mapquest. Also, when are the payments due. The dates show the same as previous trips.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Whoops on the payment dates...can you say 'cut and paste'? Dang I'll have to get on my secretary about that...oh wait...I am my secretary! :diver:

I have fixed the payment dates for you and the destination is MoreHead City, NC. Our hotel is actually in Atlantic Beach, NC and I'll post that as well.

That would be great to see you on this trip. You'll love it...so will your camera! -ww

:diver: OK, I'm in! :diver: Add me to the Check's in the mail list and I'll work out the travel details later. I see we have Brian aka DiverBrian and Andrew aka Superlit signed up so far. So far so good. 2 guys to 2 gals, sound like a great ratio to me so far. I'd love to see if ScubaPunk is up to a little wreck diving. She did great in Bonaire at 100' and the Helma Hooker.

What will the water temps be like in early October and is there a thermocline to deal with at depth?

I've been wreck diving on the St Lawrence where there's little temp change and in the carribean where it's just plan comfy.

Hey, is there a spell check on this thing? I try my best but still find errrrrors.

I'd can't wait to dive with you again Dolly! I do want to see those wrecks, but I don't think October is a good time for me this year. Have a great time, and take lots of pics. Do you have any Bonaire pics to share yet?

I happen to be a former member of the "silent service", so looking at an older sub than what I served on will be intriquing.

Also, if someone wants doubles and a stage bottle to dive with for this trip, I have ONE set of Doubles (Genesis steel 100's) and and a 40 cu. ft. stage bottle that I can drive down in addition to the set of double 130's that I am bringing down. You can PM me and I will work details.

Dolly,

I did one trip to Brockville last year. Great diving diving isn't it? Far warmer than the stuff that I am used to which involves low forties below a thermocline and 85 degrees while I am suiting up (yesterday on the Pewabic in Lake Huron).

The temps in Oct should be only a few degrees cooler than what we have for most of the summer as water takes a long time to warm up and a long time to cool off. Our average temps for this trip are 77-79 degrees and yes there may be a thermocline but if there is you'll only see a couple of degrees drop usually.

Also I'm getting caught up on payments...

What? Two Michiganders on the same trip? That has to be a SD record!

I would think that a spot is open judging by the list so far.
