Need To Know:
- This trip will be opened early for booking as everyone going must obtain a paper visa which requires a 2 month turn around time from making application to getting your visa back. Therefore we will need to book this trip earlier than usual to ensure that everyone has plenty of time to get their visas. SD.com will help you with the important step after you have booked.
- It is not easy to get to PNG so at this time this is the only trip we have scheduled for this unique destination.
- We will be booking many of the legs of this trip for you with the help of our air consolidator in Australia who specializes in this region
- There are safety concerns if you get off the beaten path so ALL our arrangements will be as a group with carefully selected 'group hotels' you will need to stay at to diminish extraneous and unnecessary risk. We appreciate you allowing us to help us all be safer.

Tufi Resort (landbased) offers a wide variety of diving experiences. These include diving the fjords to unchartered reefs and WW2 wrecks. Visibility of 30 metres plus and water temperatures of 26°C to 29°C are consistent all year round.
- Right at the jetty, in front of the dive shop, a new world awaits the unsuspecting diver. In amongst the rubble of dumped machinery and coca cola bottles from WWII, a wide variety of little critters have made their home.
- Every conceivable species of gobie, nudibranch, mandarin fish, ghost pipe, banded pipe and a plethora of other fascinating creatures, offers the diver a mecca for underwater macro photography. All this in less than 10m (32ft) of water!
- During a night dive the inhabitants of this area are totally transformed and one cannot recognise it as the same dive done during daylight hours.
- When scuba diving the fjords, experience the unique macro world and if in for a wreck dive you can check out the WW2 PT boat wrecks. A wonderful array of sponges and shelf corals that line the walls of the tropical rainforest fjord present a truly different diving environment.
- The outer reef experience is unsurpassed visibility exceeding 30m all year round, water temperature from 26-29°C and a choice of dozens of world-class dive sites. Moor onto a few of our favourites, Cyclone Cay, Black Rocks, Stewarts Reef and Shark Tip. 5-10 nautical miles offshore lies a string of reefs – ‘bommies’ that come up from a staggering depth of up to 600m to a nice safety-stop level of 7-5m below the surface.
- The waters are teeming with spectacular marine life, like schooling barracuda and reef fish, a variety of sharks including the rare white Hammerhead Shark and an abundance of little critters, ideal for macro photography.
- The majority of reefs in the region remain unexplored and it will be some time before the full diversity of the Tufi reefs is known. The resort focuses on reef and muck diving and all diving is carried out under the guidance of PADI dive professionals.
MV Oceania (liveaboard) Kimbe Bay is home to stunning reefs with those brilliant coral formations you see in all the classic Walindi pics. Beautiful and dramatic sea mounts, coral laden walls and lush coral gardens are all a feature of Kimbe Bay diving, along with myriad fish and invertebrate life the reefs sustain.
- Witu Islands are a group of islands, volcanic in origin, situated to the north west of Kimbe Bay. The diving is a mixture of sea mounts rising from deep waters to within metres of the surface (such as Lama shoals), beautiful coral arches and great night dives in the black sand bays of the islands. Lots of interaction with the locals trading fresh fruit and veg out of their canoes too.
- Fathers Reefs are a series of off-shore reefs, also volcanic in origin. The underwater topography is startlingly different with dramatic reefscapes, arches and swim-throughs. Being offshore, these reefs also attract pelagic activity such as sharks, rays, turtle, schools of barracuda and jacks, etc.

Tours & Culture on Landbased Only:
Tufi Cultural Experience Tour
This is one of our most popular and renowned tours. On the Tufi Cultural tour we take you by boat into one of the nearby fjords where you will be met by local villagers in traditional dress, on outrigger canoes. The villagers will then take you on their outriggers up a river into the fjord, where you will disembark and walk through to the cultural tour area. There, guests are treated to demonstrations and lessons of how to make sago, fire making, mat making, traditional tattooing and bush medicines. You will also get to see how they use various bush materials to maintain their traditional lifestyle. Guests are treated to a traditional sing sing, which is a sight to behold. When finished they will paddle you back to the boat, from there it’s a short cruise back to the resort or to Komoa Beach.

Suicide Lookout Walk
A guided tour along the ridge top between the fjords takes in the scenery & wildlife until your reach the spectacular views from Suicide Lookout. See the villages and meet the locals while enjoying a coconut with them along the way.

General Village Tour
Come and spend a morning or afternoon in one of the surrounding villages and experience life in Tufi in a traditional environment.

Bird Watching
Tufi is surrounded by a wide range of diverse habitats including coastal beachfront, mangroves, lowland rainforest, hill rainforests, littoral forests, coconut groves, plantations and grasslands. All have their own unique flora and fauna, but of particular importance are the butterflies and birds. Over 120 bird species have been identified within a few hours walk of Tufi.
Komoa Beach
Take a canoe or boat across to the white sandy beach of Komoa, located just across the fjord from Tufi Resort. On Komoa Beach you can sunbake on the white sand, explore your surrounds or snorkel on the reef in front of the beach. Spend the morning or afternoon on Komoa and we can arrange a picnic lunch or snacks for you to enjoy. It’s a great way to let your hair down and relax..
Komoa Beach Sunday BBQ Luncheon
Enjoy our famous Sunday BBQ Luncheon on the beautiful Komoa Beach.
Fjord Cruise
Enjoy a relaxing fjord cruise on one of our boats, Masalai or Crystal, seeing all that these fjords have to offer with beautiful flora & fauna and steep cliffs that seem to fall into the sea. Have a swim or just sit back relax and have a drink; a great way to see the fjords with your family or friends. Bar service and toilet facilities available on board.
Kayaking, Canoeing & Beach Days
Take a slow boat ride to the end of Tufi’s fjord while we will tow kayaks along for your leisurely paddle back to the resort. Along the way, witness some spectacular scenery.
Some of the cliff faces are several hundred feet high; magnificent rainforests cover the surrounding mountains; the fjords are over 100 meters deep. Sheltered from the prevailing winds, the surface of the water is like glass. Local huts are dotted along the shores, tucked away in an idyllic setting. This is a real touch of paradise.
Duration of this fjord cruise is approximately 3 hours, leaving at 9am and return for lunch. Remember to take insect repellent with you; after all, you are entering a tropical jungle.

***********************************************************************************************************************
We have had a number of requests for Papua New Guinea aka PNG for 2027. We are looking at both a land based and liveabaord back to back to accommodate those who prefer one or the other AND those who want to max out the diving there.
We need to do a lot of research this fall but will do that at our annual industry dive show in Nov 2025. We are considering a trip to PI to break up the travel for a week and then head to PNG afterwards.
More interest came up on our recent Bonaire trip and so we are at least opening the topic to let members start to get their names on the SAVE THE DATES LIST...
