And why do you think I would have told you. I said: I got the convertible, and emptied the ashtrays every day. You were supposed to bring the women... :taz:

For international travel: I also carry water treatment. You can get yours at the Sporting Goods store carrying camping gear, but I just put liquid laundry bleach in a 1 oz pharmacy bottle with a dropped, marked "water treatment." I add 3 drops to a quart of tap water, stir, wait 30 minutes - chlorinated water. No giardia!!

Warning: Before flying back to the US, I will empty all liquids - especially alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, and water treatment. I got hasseled at the Coz airport about my various liquids, and had my medical alcohol confiscated. Don't want to spend time in a Latin American jail...!!

Still not sure you need all those liquids...BUT it is a good idea to empty them before traveling as the airlines are SOOOOOOOOOO tight these days.

As for as Key Largo...I think its only fair that Gar should have gotten the girls...afterall...you did the rest of it!!! LOL!!! :taz:

P.S. Maybe that's why he didn't know if you had any viagra...no reason to borrow any??? :twist:

When I get back from a dinner party tonight, if sober, or before the crawfish boil here tomorrow, we'll list the various treatments that help for various marine injuries (e.g. what do you put on a fire coral injury). OK, and you have to give the "proper answer" before you state "all the dive buddies line up and aim"

The most effective treatment for fire coral is rarely used. First. don't touch the sting. If you touch it, drop back to the second most effective method because this one will no longer work. As soon as you touch fire coral, fan the area with sea water. That's right, wave your hand back and forth rapidly over the sting. Continue this throughout the dive. Not constantly, but for 15 seconds or so every 3 - 4 minutes. By the time the dive is over the sting will be a faint memory.

here is a list of some common marine injuries and basic treatments. I agree with Walter on fanning the injured site while still in the ocean.

Envenomizations
Stingray, stonefish > Scorpionfish > lionfish, sea urchin puncture
Rinse/irrigate the wound vigorously.
Immerse in hot water (110-113C) for 30-90 min to denature toxins, and repeat prn
Remove visible stinger, sheath. Scrub vigorously with soap/ water, irrigate with fresh, heated water

Jellyfish, sea wasp, sea nettle, anemone, hydroid, fire coral
Immediately rinse with sea water.
Apply acetic acid 5% until pain relieved. Other options include; paste/ powder of baking soda, or rubbing alcohol 40-70%. Home remedies include unseasoned meat tenderizer (papain), mashed papaya or urine.

Sea bathers skin eruption
Caused by larval forms of sea anemones. Involves covered areas of the body, e.g. under swim suit, cuffs of wet suit, bathing caps.
Immediately scrub with soap and water, then shower. Soak with acetic acid, baking soda paste or rubbing alcohol 40-70%. Apply calamine lotion, and/ or hydrocortisone cream 0.5-1%. If skin reaction is severe, involving much of the body surface, begin oral steroids.

Coral cut
Scrub vigorously with soap and water, flush with fresh water. Flush with ½ strength hydrogen peroxide in water to bubble out microscopic organic debris, then rinse again.
Apply antiseptic ointment, cover. Scrub, rinse, apply ointment bid. Antibiotics only for signs of infection.

Drugs are always a good thing to consider. :P
Here is a list of common drugs useful for dive related infection/ injury. Of course, individuals need to be aware of sensitivities and allergies to medications before using. (see singledivers.com disclaimer), blah, blah, blah.

Infections
Marine based infection; ciprofloxacin 500-750 mg bid or Bactrim/ septra 1 DS bid
Land based infection; keflex 250-500 mg q 6 hr

Allergic reactions
Mild reactions;
H1 blocker (diphenhydramine/ benadryl) 25-50 mg po q 4-6 hr
H2 blocker (cimetidine/ tagamet) 300 mg po q 6-8 hr or (tagamet/ Zantac) 150 mg po q 12 hr

Severe reactions:
epinephrine 1:1000 0.3-0.5 ml sq
steroids/ prednisone 60-80 mg po, repeat dose in am prn (onset 4-6 hr)
inhalers prn (as needed)

Hi there No Pressure,

I had heard that Primatene Mist was dangerous to use, that it could have really bad cardiac side effects.....is that an old wives tail?

Thanks for the clarification.

An addition:

I keep bonine pills and Ginger tablets around. I am susceptible to motion sickness and I like to "pre-treat" before feeding the fish and finding myself with my head over the side of the boat with nothing let to feed said fish.

In this neck of the woods, weather forecasts are just that: "forecasts"! We often pull out of port with glassy water and come back up from the dive with pretty bad conditions (almost as bad as the moderator discipline on this board).

Oops! I have been gone too long. I reread NP's list and he mentions this! My mistake.

hydrocordone and extra sunscreen...viagra...hmmm not really with all the evil talk about mischievous getting angry. :twist:
wow! handcuffs and a rough night, wow diverbrian...i never would have thought you of all peeps.

She doesn't know me too well, does she? :welcome:

The reason that I don't tend to drink much on trips has to with another saying (Laura will like this one):

Heavy drink giveth great desire, but taketh away the ability.

Contrary to popular belief, it the opportunity exists, I don't like that ability taken away! That makes for a long night though. Caffiene in the morning anyone?!

That having been said, I don't consider Viagra an emergency drug. Right now, if I need it, it would take too long to work. :diver:
