WreckWench aka Kamala

- FIRST STARTING OUT GOALS (These will change as my fitness evolves and/or I decide to change them)

  • Walk 15 min/day;
  • Stretching/Flexibility Daily;
  • 10-15 Strenuous Wall Pushups/Daily alternating days and
  • some sort of leg strengthening exercise on opposite days as arms.

- REVISED GOADS AS OF _____ :  This has yet to come.

- MY WHY Getting on the ladder is getting harder and harder unless they have ladders that help stabilize me. I could get up any ladder with or without rails with my gear on. I want to return to that level of fitness and strength. Walking to the boat with a heavy camera is starting to wind me a bit. Again that never happened before so I want to improve my cardio as well as leg strength and overall fitness to ALLOW ME TO DIVE AS LONG AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE so as to not be burden to others on land nor a danger in the water.

- MY PROMISE TO MYSELF: If I skip a day or week (or more) I will forgive myself and just get going again. If I don't do as much or as well as others also trying to get FIT TO DIVE...I will be happy for their achiemvents and use their energy to help me be more motivated or get motivated or stay motivatd. This is not a contest but a journey. Its MY journey and will not look like anyone else's so I will not try to look like someone's else's journey either. NOW GET MOVING DOING SOMETHING!!!

Date              Activity

05/13/26 Walked 15mins, 10 wall pushups

05/15/26 Nothing

05/15/26 Stretching, 10 wall pushups

05/16/26 Stretching, 10 wall pushups

Try grabbing onto the counter and doing "butt to heels" squats. Holding the inside of the kitchen sink lip works best.  That will help with getting up the ladder and if you are out of shape is ALOT harder than it sounds.   Once you can do it without passing out you can try doing it on your tip-toes.  That will give you balance and strengthen your arches and ankles so that ladder isn't much of a challenge.  When you first start you can probably only do 2 or 3 and will be very sore the next day.  After 2 weeks you will feel like a new person though.

This is better cardio than walking as you will see.  Even better with a 40 lb weight belt on!!

I have to do the equivalent of this with weights due to my bad feet.  If you keep your ankles lined up properly It makes s huge difference with very little time involved.

Goood job, agree with Scott on the squats.   I have been doing water aerobics and swimming 5/6 days per week.  Since I got injured on my last ski trip, I have had to do PT, not fun!  They have me doing lots of squats and leg presses to help with walking now and that will help with getting up and down ladders.  I want to dive until I am 80 if possible!!!!

So glad you are ok...even if PT is a bear! I want to be diving with you when you are 80 and a whole bunch of times in between!  Wanna have your own fitness/health topic in this new forum?  We'd love for you to share your journey as well as celebrate ours!  :wub:

I just started going to 'the gym'.  Surprised how out-of-shape I was because I thought I was in better shape than all the men my age;  70 !

Target is 3 days per week... if I only go once or twice, I do not let that affect my goal next week.

Even signed up for a 'personal trainer' occasionally.  Mostly because he shows me how to use another piece of equipment (or two) each time.  Also little hints about hand, feet, elbow, positions. I was unaware that they have excersizes to improve balance because natural balance ability decreases with age if we do not work on it.

I am on week 6 of the stability and mobility training with my personal trainer due to my feet and ankles.  I've found the biggest thing that gets in the way is shoes.  Most people go for soft insoles but those are the worst for balance and are really only good for running.  I was falling on my face on some of these exercises which look easy but are not with soft shoes.  I switched to my Merrells with hard soles and then it got much easier.   I try 5 days a week but lately have been only going the 2 I paid time for.  Some of the personal trainers, like mine, have special ankle and foot training.  I have no idea how to find them.  I just lucked out finding mine.
