Can anyone recommend a contact for diving in Antartica?

I realize most of the trips involve 2 weeks sailing etc. to get there, but finding it difficult to locate information on this.

You know you're nuts, right? That being said, a quick Google search of "Diving In Antarctica" brought up lots of results, including http://www.ocnwide.com/

What are you talking about, Marvel? He's from Minnesota for God's sake. He's used to that kind of cold. :teeth:

Marvel,

It's a three step program;

1. You're nut's if you go diving

2. You're crazy for diving under the ice

3. You're insane for going cave diving.

And since I do all three, I'm certifiable

I'm originally from SE Indiana, moved to MN back in 2001. Never thought I would be doing what I do in diving then either. Life has it's twists!

Thanks for the link

One of my buddies (Karen) returned last month from 3 weeks in Antarctica. She said the diving was awesome (imagine 600 foot vis). Not sure who she dove with. It was a Russian vessel and the cost was more than $15,000 so it was out of my reach. Just back into town but will try to contact her to find out who she dove with. I plan to go after I dive Africa and South America so I can finally sweep the continents.

Any and all information is appreciated.

Thanks.

A coworker/dive buddy is going down there to dive next season, so he's done lots of research. He's going with Quark Expeditions, and is paying somewhere in the vicinity of $6,000 for an expedition of about two weeks (doesn't include air fair to Argentina). The ship will host divers and non-divers, so will include lots of non-diving activities in addition to the ice diving. This is also a dream of mine, and I wish I could go with him, but just can't afford it this year.

I'll ask him if it's okay to give you his email address for further info.

You can download Quark's brochure in PDF format here.

Shamu, that's similar info that one of my Divemasters who is going had gathered as well. Antarctica is on my five year out plan too! I don't think you're crazy at all. What an amazing experience your trip will be! Have a great time jpreston and please share photos and stories after your trip!! :cool2:

Shamu & Dive Girl,

Thanks for the great info, I hope to do this by next year is my plan so I will have a ton of pictures to share.

You are right you don't have to be crazy to do this, just passionate for diving.

Since the window of opportunity for diving Antarctica is fairly narrow each year, maybe our plans will align within the next few years and we can have a two-person SD delegation (or more, if John doesn't go next year) to Antarctica! :canuckdiver:
