So after all of the excellent information from everyone here. I think I've partially made up my mind.

Originally I was planning to wait until September to certify with my son after he turns 10. I was introduced to some concerns regarding his health and the overall safety of children diving which made me rethink that idea.

My plan now is to get certified myself and get some experience before I decide for sure to allow him to dive or not. I figure it will give him more time to mature and make me think he might actually be able to handle emergency situations on his own, and it will also give me more of an idea of the risks that he would experience.

The two LDS's I'd talked to already have a class in May that I'm considering signing up for. Now to decide which one...

Oh and this also means that my plan to purchase a motorcycle this summer will be pushed back a bit :dltears: <sigh>.... Why cant I just win the Lottery or somethin jeesh!

Congratulations! Many will agree with me that this is a good thing because this way you'll have more info, skills, and experience for when you do take your son into a potentially dangerous situation.

Diving is much more fun than motorcycles, you won't regret postponing your purchase.

I think what you're doing is a wise choice. I'm one of many who think 10 is still too young to dive ( I only wish the training agencies saw eye to eye with me on this ).

Get some experiance under YOUR belt first, that way when your son's a little older, and truely ready for diving, you will be a better buddy. He'll have a lot of fun learning tips and tricks from his Dad, and you'll be better able to judge the safety of your dive outings together, making the team a bit safer.

Have fun learning to dive! And like the others said, choose your instructor wisely, it'll play a big part in what kind of skills and comfort level you walk away with. When you're certified, I can think of a good place to find experianced buddies to get you out there enjoying your new sport... oh wait, you're already here.

raizyr, Good luck in your pursuit of scuba therapy. It is a great sport, with friendly, helpful people. I also agree to get yourself certified and experienced first, then you can more easily focus on diving with your son in the future. When you are comfortable with the sport, then you can be confortable paying attention to someone else.

Well, I don't have a problem with the digression seeing as how razier was in a lot of it and it was afterall HIS INTRO. So where it goes from there is up to him as long as it is kept clean. We may end up having to split the topic though and move it if it continues down the path though.

I just love this place with all of the various sense of humors.
