October Seafood Festival 10/1 to 10/3 (Travel Dates: 9/30 & 10/4) 3 Days Diving Openings


Seafood Festival Weekend is awesome in NC and last year we found silver knives, forks and spoons on the USS Schurz after Issy went through! (Yes if you find something you can keep it because there are so many wrecks off the Eastern Seaboard they are not considered of historical significance.)

Oct 1-3 diving with a day on either side for travel (see the full trip details under the NC Wreck & Shark Diving 4 trips to choose from in this forum) is usually a beautiful weekend and a great way to end the diving season in NC. The water is still in the high 70's or low 80's and air temps run about the same. Viz can be less then usual depending on how many storms hit the area but artifact finds are usually awesome including a fully intact porcelain bowl of the U-352 2 years ago!!!

Nothing reall. It's just that they are the Big Dawg in the area.

My favorite mooning target is a Cruise Boat. Thank Gawd they don't call on Atlantic Beach! Maybe I'll find something else to moon. (.)

Anyway, I'll look forward to diving with ya' in Oct...

Usually it is not the issue of the boat but the group that is on it. Olympus however will typically do the same wrecks over and over...not an issue if its your first time. The boat is technically the fastest but not by much in the area and she wallows in the water more then ANY boat in the area cuz she foregoes stability for speed.

Depending on the group you are with...your bottom time and surface interval may be pre-determined or limited. And of course the boat is somewhat of a cattle boat so as is usually the case...it is only as good as the weakest diver.

That is one of the reasons we can provide a better experience via our group trips to the area...we work with a boat that carries 18 passengers and not 30+. We also limit the divers who can dive with us requiring not only a minimum number of dives but also at least an advanced certification. And I personally screen every person who wishes to dive with us before allowing them on one of the NC trips. That is why I have so many repeat divers and DM's, Instructors etc. who come and do their play/fun dives with me vs. taking thier chances with the other boats in the area.

I hear the conditions are good...I'll be there Memorial Day weekend...are you there then or the first weekend in June?

WW: I probably won't be able to make the SD trips to NC this year because of wallet issues, but I hope to next year. Dove out of Morehad last weekend and had some great diving. Still a little chilly (68 on the Atlas and Caribesea) but vis is already better than last year. Also got me a nice grouper for dinner, so felt like I at least got something back for the trip. At this rate, I figure fresh fish is down to $50.00 per pound. What a deal!!
