I'm placing this in the non-diving related topics forum although it is certainly related to diving. Funny- other than the intro forum, this one has the greatest number of threads!

The student of one of my buddies posted a question on ScubaBoard recently about wanting to learn how to "make out" under water. Understand he is young (and may not know how to "make out" topside either).

I bring this up because the response on SB was interesting. Several, including at least one moderator, posted that it was a foolish question. Several others thought he was referring to joining the 5 fathom club and criticized him. Here on SD I think he would get a different response.

I was quite surprised that many of the responses assumed "making out" referred to what we (in the dark ages) used to refer as "hitting a home run," "doing IT (has a whole different meaning now, doesn't IT?)," or "going all the way." When I was a younger lad (and had a bod like ZD is rumored to due to all my competitive swimming), if we said we were "making out" it meant little more than prolonged heavy kissing (sigh). You could go beyond that and "pet." Most of us never got a home run though in high school (ah the age of innocence, soon to blossom into the age of free love).

With the differences in sexual mores these days among the young, I'm wondering if "making out" now includes those higher levels of "achievement?" Just what does "making out" mean to you?

I actually understood what Clinton meant when he said he didn't have "sexual relations with that woman." If my parents had asked me if I'd had "sex" on a date, it would mean did I hit a home run? Anything else was pretty much considered "safe" in their eyes. Of course they never asked me, and are still afraid to!

Well I'm not much younger then you and "making out" has the same meaning to me as what you described. I guess we will have to have some of our younger members weight in to find out if the meaning has changed. And just remember one thing "Nobody died when Clinton lied"

Just what does "making out" mean to you?

sorry. i woulda been the first to respond but i was rescuing a sparrow stuck in our building.

to me, makin' out is what you described...lots of good, hot, wet kissing, progressing to, but just shy of, actually playing hide the salami.

i LOVE a guy who really knows how to kiss (and i'm not talking about tonsil hockey). he's got to know how to use his lips

oops...i feel the censorship board approaching....

Yeah, I saw the Make-Out thread. Dumb, dumber, dumbest...

I've always thought of "Making Out" in this context - from a male's view - as seductive actions short of sexual relations, but then - in another context, asking someone how s/he "made out" with another endeavor would be different, as I'd be asking if they completed the objective. This part of this is kinda' interesting.

Clinton, well known to be a briallant idot (I've known many in Mensa), lied in my book, though. Oral sexual relations are still sexual relations.

Walter, better watch this thread closely. I wouldn't be surprised if someone tried to use the f....k word. I would have, myself, but I couldn't work "firetruck" into the discussion. :dltears:

Ok so I just about freaked when I saw the topic but the content is far more tame then the title implies. However this would only have been started due to the zesty nature of a single person not to mention the curiosity and lack thereof of the 3 letter word one imagines coming up so to speak in this topic vein.

So having said all of that...I moved it to "Of interest to singles" vs. non-diving. Thanks guys and gals....now keep it clean.

We don't want to scare any NORMAL people off now do we???? LOL!!! -ww

Speaking up for the younger generation. I interpret "making out" to involve heavy kissing and petting but no sex. Another term that is in common use these days is "hooking up". I don't know what the diffence is though.
