Hey y'all! I'm going to be headed to San Diego, CA next week (actually I'll be working in La Hoya) and wanted to know if y'all could give me some info on where to dive, how to dive, etc. Also, any volunteers for a dive buddy?? I'll be staying over the weekend of May 15 so that will be when I can dive. Don't be shy, I don't bite....much :anna:

VaScuba Girl- Can't help much with San Diego. Last time I dove on the So Cal mainland was back in 1969. Hope you get some help from others on this board.

Do you know the origin of the first part of your sig ("follow your bliss"?). If I'm not mistaken, it comes from mythologist Joseph Campbell. Since he was one of "the gang" in Cannery Row (with Doc Ricketts, John Steinbeck, Henry Miller, etc.). I use it in my e-mail sigfile.

Good luck finding the info you're looking for. I know there's lots of good diving down there.

Dr. B.

Hey Y'all! Thanks for the great info. I know the water and conditions are a good bit different from what we have over on this side of the continent, so what would you recommend in terms of gear? Also, let me know if this is rentable out there and who is reputable to rent from. I know already I will need a 7 mil suit and I will definitely rent that since there just isn't a tremendous need for 7mil suits out my way.

You can buy a good one for $120, and it can indeed come in handy out there. The last day of my last trip, I wish I'd had one; next Oct, I'm bringing it. As you get more epxerienced, you may find your suit needs increase...

I have to admit I've never dived in my native commonwealth, but I'd think it would get cold enough for a 7 mm suit in the winter.

I figure I can hit Dr. B up for some videographer tips so I can be ready for you in Bonaire ... I think you might just have star quality! :welcome:

Note to self: 1) toss an extra handful of zip ties into Save-A-Dive kit before Bonaire..... 2) send Kamala package of unmarked bills before she fills out roommate list.

Jamie, you know, in the hospital, we have both "soft" and leather wrist restraints, for those patients with an attitude. In fact the police set is leathers with key. I can send a few sets to you, if you like. All I ask in return is a copy of the video.
