Haven't dived there but did some diving in the Southern Great Barrier Reef probably a bit north of Lord Howe Island. Dove near Lady Elliot Island and Lady Musgrave Island as well as Fair Fax Island. This is about as far south as the GBR goes. I left out of Bundaberg. Bundaberg makes an incredible rum and the tour of the factory was a real hilite of that area.

I have been to Heron 3 times which i think is a bit north from where you have been and really liked it.

Lord Howe Island is just south of the GBR and out east. It is part of the Continental shelf. They say they have warm currents out in that area and excellent corals. But I have heard that sort of thing before. Although the write up in Sport Diver sounded very interesting.

So I will do a little research and if it looks great........we will see if we can get the SD Gods interested.

Here is a link I found to Lady Elliot. I was on a liveaboard but they have a resort on the island(if you want to call it a resort) serviced by a small land strip.

This is a good link (SD Gods make a note)! Go to the "Green Bar for more Island Resorts". I have been to seven of those. Check out Heron and take a look at Wilson Island although the accommodations are tents it is at an A&K level and expensive! Snorkeled at Wilson and there are Turtles everywhere :wakawaka:

I sent some e-mails to the Dive shops and the Tourist board on Lord Howe. Will PM you and Kamala when I get replies.....Hopefully we may get enough interest for a couple of Islands and Maybe.... SD trip 2007.....we have to work at getting SD west of Texas :2cool:?

If anyone has been to Lord Howe Island please pass the info on.

LHI is an island off the coast of New South Wales and comes under the juristiction of the NSW government. From memory it is about an hour or so flight from Sydney and has a policy of limited numbers of visitors each day. I haven't dived or even visited there but it is somewhere I want to go.
