All,

It looks like I will be going to Singapore for work at the end of the month (I cannot wait for the chilli and pepper crabs). I have been there in the past but that was before I became a diver. I wondered if anyone had been there and done any diving. If you have, any suggestions? Is it worth taking my diving stuff?

I have a Malaysian diver friend who lives in Singapore. Her diving is usually on trips to Malaysia and other countries within the region. I believe she mentioned some time ago that there wasn't much diving off Singapore itself, but my memory may be wrong.

There's plenty of fab diving in the neighbouring countries, eg. Malaysia (Layang-Layang, Sipadan, Mabul in East Malaysia and Redang, Aur, Perhentian in West Malaysia), Thailand (Phuket, Koh Samui, Koh Tao), Indonesia (Manado, Bali, Lombok).

Check out these Singapore dive shops for trips to the above & more:

Thanks all for the info. In my searching I didn't find anything in Singapore itself just, you pretty much had to go to a neighboring country. Looks like I will have to wait for Fiji, Fiji, Fiji.

My wife is in Singapore right now but I didn't get to go with this time.Diving in singapore itself is no good at all, did it once, with the reclamation projects and runoff, it killed any reef that was there. Besides it is cheeper to go stay in Malaysia or you can catch a cheap 1 1/2 hour flight to thailand if your so inclined, Indonesia also isn't far and has some good diving as well. If you like more info, just let me know Oh PS Black pepper crab is better I think! :-) and my favorite! Bah ku teh!!!! Yummie!!!!!!

Which end is up?

No problem, If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. My wife is a Singaporean Citizen and I am a resident and have spent a fair ammout of time there myself (Although not nearly as much as I would like). By the way, if your travelling that far, YOU HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO DIVE! :teeth:

Best wishes on your trip!

Depending on how long you have you could hop down to Phuket or Malaysia. If you decide to go to Thailand, let me know and I'll PM you all the info I got while I was there. It was DEFINITELY worthwhile.

How long will you be in Singapore, I am headed there for Chinese new year and I am trying to arange a small trip to dive in Malaysia. The problem I am having so far is that the one of my friends who dives and lives in Singapore has a baby boy now and can only get away for a day trip. I was hoping to try and get a few days of diving in if I could.

Try Tioman Island. You can drive there from Singapore; maybe about an hour. Just drive to Mersing, catch the ferry across to the island. It's MYR70 for the ferry return; about USD17.

You can even cross the causeway to Johor Bahru and take a taxi. I did that a couple of years ago and it only cost me about MYR100. Check first, my memory's a bit shakey on that point.

Get in touch with this mob; they'll pick you up from the jetty.

Sorry I didn't respond earlier. I was only there for a week. Unfortunately I didn't have time to do any diving. Maybe next time.
