Yeah I know: I've been branded a non-group person - doesn't play well with others. I am so upset. Let me know if you want to have some fun, without the drama - I'm good for that.

Might be a little hard to do a safety stop right now!

I have decided to dig in here in Bryan/College Station today and tomorrow. As soon as the storm begins to subside, I will be returning to Houston as quickly as I can. As long as where I live is not flooded or burned, I will be OK. I have half of my supplies remaining at home and will be bringing as much in as possible. I have my Kayak and all my swiftwater rescue gear with me in case I encounter anyone needing assistance.
I have been very lucky. the only casualty I have had so far is two sheets of radiochromic film dosimetry media which went bad when I was driving without a/c on 290. Others have not been so lucky. You are all probably aware of what has happpened on the freeways here in Texas. I saw lots of cars out of gas, and a few were even wrecked. And there was the bus. Those of you who are given to prayer could please direct them to those people. Thanks!!!

Tuttt you are so right...we all have so much to be thankful for and all prayer and well wishes need to be addressed to all of those in need from Rita and Katrina! (Thank you for that reminder and again glad that you are ok!)3PM CDT Rita has been downgraded to CAT 3 and it's projected path has shifted northeast, now projected to come ashore around Port Arthur. Hopefully it will continue to weaken and deposit most of its energy in the swamps between Lake Charles and Baton Rouge.

The heavy weather is mostly to the east of Galveston Bay, although the winds will get pretty heavy in Houston tonite. I have made contact with my loved ones there and they are all north and east of the danger zones, thank goodness.
It looks like the major refinieries will be spared the full fury of the storm, and hopefully can return to normal ops as quicly as possible. There will likely be losses in Port Arthur though, which will disrupt production somehat, but much less than what would have happened if Houston were to suffer a direct hit. Looks like we may get lucky after all.
It is eerily calm here, and the sunset was spectacular. The bands are very distinct here and each one was a different shade of yellow and orange in the setting sun. It's amazing how something so deadly can be so beautiful at the same time.
The authorities in Houston and vicinity have been doing sweeps to get anyone still stuck on the highway off and into shelter. Hopefully they are doing likewise in Louisiana. I would hate to think of anyone being trapped on one of the two high bridges there.

Looks like Houston was spared the worst of it as well. So far caualties have been almost non-existant. Rita has been downgraded to a tropical storm and is still moving quickly inland.
The refineries seem to have sustained less damage than expected, so hopefully the price spike in gas should be mild as well.
I called over to my place and got the answering machine, so hopefully it has power and didn't burn to the ground. I am going to try to return tonight or tomorrow.
We were very lucky.

it's good to know that you weathered the storm without any harm!
I'd like to see pictures of the rotation of this storm, I think that would be really interesting
the rumour here in DFW is the Govenor capped gas and food prices, it's still good to know that the refineries didn't sustain alot of damage

Thanks. I mad it home yesterday before sunset. Took the back roads and got home in 2 hours, doing the speed limit all the way. Have power and water where I live. Plenty of gas in the car and food in the pantry. There's no place like homw!!Teresa,

Houston looks pretty good. Other than a few downed tree limbs you wouldnt knowa storm had been throught here. Many people had their yards already cleaned with the debris stacked in neat piles by the road.
I didnt have my amera handy that night. Not that I would have known hown how to set the exposure for that sort of thing. :\
Haven't heard any reports of price caps. But unless there is supply to back it up, I would not be in favor of them. Better high prices and conservation than no goods at all..
Still waiting for damage reports on the refineries, but early reports are still optimistic.
We were very lucky. Can't say that enough. The storm passed through the most sparsely populated area between Houston and New Orleans. the only way we could have been lucker was to have no storm at all.
