Is there a way to search the membership database by 'Geographic location'? .... It would make it easier to find divers in your own area.... Or for some it may help to locate divers at a destination they are going to .... There are what, about 170 pages of members... and no way that I could see to refine a search to geographic location.
:)
Thanks
KC

KC,

Unfortunately, there currently isn't a way to locate divers by area. One way to potentially find divers in an area you are going to is to start a thread in the I'm Headed Your Way forum, or the I Need An SD Dive Buddy for My Trip forum, or, assuming you're diving locally, the Americas forum as BeachBunny and B2B did for their Athens Anyone? thread.

:)

I've asked for that as well. Maybe now that they are getting ready to upgrade, its time to ask again?! I'd like to see it as a column when you look up members.

I do know that in the upgraded version, there is a way to do this. It does take some alterations of the php code, but it not only doable, but you are able to sort in desc/ascen order.

Not sure what the programming skills are, but it is not that hard to do. TSR made a good point though, it would actually be more beneficial if this was able to be done in the same manner, but using zip codes instead.

Thanks for the info... I look forward to the upgraded version (or if that is what we are using now, perhaps a little tutorial)... Being able to locate by geographic location will be a nice way to meet divers in the area you live (or plan to travel to - of course the travel will most likely be on some of the SD trips so I won't have to worry about finding people there to dive with)

Using zip codes would only work if this was a US only site. Postal codes from other countries don't work with zip codes (plus they can differ from block to block, at least here in Canada...)

That depends on how flexible the program is.

Michelle,

It's not that you would 'FIND' persue' zip codes, but location.....
Example: Sort by ascending Zip/Postal Codes....this way if you new the block(area) that you were wanting to see who all was in, you would have it....there for, those in Canada would more than likely want to look up others in THEIR area, unless, they were coming to Houston, then they could look at that block of areas.

It's all about the numbers = vicinity!
