If I can add another concern, please ...

The Last Post feature is not working either. Whether I use it on the Portal page, or on the Forums page, it gives a white page when clicked on.

I have the same problem.

Yes, I have trouble logging in too. It asks me to send a validation email, but when I put my name in, it doesn't recognize it.
Also, I don't stay logged in.

The only way I can logon reliably is by using the input box next to Welcome New Person log-in box...

Yep, Norm's correct that has been the most consistent way for me to login. Also, I just pulled down Spy Sweeper (which you can try for free for 14 days). It did find some spyware on my work computer (I did not have that same problem at home because I have my home PC pretty locked down). Once I ran Spy Sweeper I no longer get "Elephant" video when I come to the site.

BTW, I also do not get the blank page after posting a message. Don't know if that is related to the spyware or not, but it maybe something to keep in mind.

So if you have not run a spyware remover I would suggest it.

Quick update:

We found a wayward piece of code in one of the forum config files that seems to have been related to the video file, logins and blank page issues. It was removed apposimately 12:10PM EST and seems to have alleviated several of these issues.

OT: Spysweeper is good, also check out AdAware Personal, SpyBot and MS AntiSpyware.

I noticed that some threads and replies were disappearing the day or so before the site went down, and it was very random

we may not be able to reinstate those posts

This is going to apply to everything, posts, threads, PMs, etc.....

Unfortuantely, the corruption in the database required going back to the las backup and restoring from there. Luckily, I had a full backup from day before. Sadly, it means and entries from the date and time of the back up, until the final crash is gone.....

We ( the ISP and I) tried very hard to repair the damage to the PM and posts tables, but by the time the "Repair" and "Optimize" utilities were done, they had "Repaired" 80% of the PMs and "Optimized" 70% of the posts into the round file.....38,000 PMs and 75,000 posts were corrupted and automatically deleted to "correct" the problem.

Thanks George, last post is working and logging on is not a problem any longer for me. On the spyware unforunately I can't load something like that at work, but we do have such a strong firewall and security system set up it generally catches things pretty quickly.

Bummer on losing stuff, but great job in getting everything back up and running.

Assuming things stay stable, another mass email to the membership may be in order to let them know it's safe to dive into the site again.

Why has a broadcast email not been sent advising the membership of what is happening? Currently everyone is in the dark and wondering what's going on.

This a question validly asked by MANY....

Norm

Unfortunately, when the site went down, it took down email and the database too

this was something that was discussed, however, the email server wouldn't run long enough to send out the blast
