After gettting a little persuasion from the Wench, I have decided to post into this forum to ask for some help. The last two months, I have been out of work and I am now up against it. Let me tell you a little about what I do.

By trade, I worked in Information Technology, worked in that field for a little over 16 years. Over that time, I did just about everything you can do; computer programming, user support, software and hardware installations, and system administration. I was laid off out of that field five years ago when the field as a while took a major beating due to offshore outsourcing and have not been able to get back into it since. During that time, I have worked mostly a series of odd jobs and temp jobs to make ends meet. The last temp job ended at the end of October and the temp agency has not placed me anywhere since.

In addition to IT, I am also very knowledgable in the area of audio/visual and sound production. I do enjoy that and I will take a strong look into that field if something presents itself.

I am just asking that if any of you can help me get a lead-in or contact within your company in the IT division, I would greatly appreciate it. I would like to ask that you do not refer me to Human Resources because IMO, I do not see HR as any kind of a help and I would like to go around them. I would like to be referred to someone who does the actual hiring. I wold also prefer to stay in the Houston area although I will take a look at leads in Dallas-Fort Worth area.

I do thank you in advance for your help. Please PM me if you would like to contact me about this.

Hope you get some job offers from this, Mitch.

I'm in a similar boat... 5 1/2 years without a regular paycheck and my business just doesn't bring in enough to cover the bills. At least you have good skills for the job market. Heck, I'm an intellectual and we know there are very few job openings for people like me in this American economy.

I work for the WorkSource and I see job orders go by. I could keep an eye out for things you might be interested in if you want to send me your resume.

Mitch we all wish you the best of luck and looking for a job is like any other endeavor...don't put all your eggs in one basket and keep working every angle you can. I know I was a victim of the telecom rollarcoaster about 5 years ago. I went from one employer for 10 years with a layoff of 2 months to one for 1 year with a layoff of 7 months to one for 6 months with an indefinite layoff. So even a blonde realizes its time to finally change careers!
