Any dates you CAN'T make it???

I wish it was that easy.

Month of June is out, other than the 12/13 which is pretty short notice. July I could make the 10th and 11th. Aug I might be able to make the 28th/29th work. Sept and Oct are out. My schedule is just lousy this summer. Oh well, if it lands when I could make it I will book a flight, if not I will just have to wait.

What temps to expect in both locations?

That depends on the time of year. Temps should be approximately the same in all three locations. (If the Gulf were in the mix, temps would vary more) Temps go from a low of about 72 (unless there's an unexpected upwelling which can plunge temps to the 60's in mid summer) in mid/late winter to a high of about 86 in mid/late summer.

I dive with a 3/2 mm suit from mid November until mid May. The other half of the year, I dive in a swim suit. You may get chilled more easily.

Sounds like you want to meet Scarlet. Krista is a great hostess. I'm predicting you'll like her signs.

Also how far is Key Largo from Lauderdale?

I rarely travel between Ft Lauderdale & Key Largo, but I'm guessing it's about a 2 hour drive. If we do the Keys, we'll likely want to head a tad farther south to Tavernier. I like the diving much better. You met Mike of TDC at DEMA.

In my humble opinion, I'm sure we could have great dives anywhere from WPB to the Keys. But my favorite area to dive in S. Fla is Boynton Beach. In fact, I'm doing two night dives Friday night there so I will not be at the HH. Boynton has great drift diving where I almost always have tons of fish and big animals. Saturday, I had two loggerhead turtles, eel , nurse shark, etc. Night dives are a guaranteed happening.

But I'll go anywhere the group wants.

Tell us more about this destination and where it is in relation to other parts of Florida...sorry I'm a bit unable to look up on a map...got no power due to heavy storms in big D last night and trees all over the yard in places they WEREN'T yesterday. I have very limited board access only due to a neighbor that has power so trying to cram as much in as I can. Thanks for the feedback....-ww

Boynton is one of the choices if the Palm Beach area is picked as the destination. There is excellent diving off Boynton. It's south of Palm Beach and north of Boca Raton. The diving is excellent all along that section of coast.

sounds like it could be a wonderful trip. I would like to see a gathering in mid to late july with 3 days of diving over a weekend...like a fri-sat-sun type of thing. for me that would give me a thursday and monday for travel.

Thanks, Walter! Great descriptions. They both sound fun. Is this Florida Current warm? What temps to expect in both locations?

CM, i usually use a 3 ml full in the gulf stream over off the east coast in
the summer, down in the keys the water gets warmer and a thin shorty or less
will usually be adequate. I think the gulf stream temps are already in the upper
70's, it's not uncommon to see 86 degree water temps in the keys in the summer.
CM, if you paln a longer stay you could always wing it on your own for a couple days, you can meet some interesting people and being a woman you will have
NO problems finding a buddy....take care !

Hey gang...its official!!! We are going to do a regional single divers event in South Florida the weekend/week of August 20-22!!! Woo!!! Hoo!!! We will figure out how many days the trip will be shortly and it looks like we'll do the bulk of our diving in the Ft. Lauderdale and surrounding area.

We also thought it would be nice to help our diving community and so we are approaching the local city to see if they will allow us to do a pier clean up event ALONG with some awesome S.Florida diving! Marvel is working on the details of a possible clean up to go along with our diving trip. Gosh I just love you all...Marvel and Walter suggested this idea which I think is wonderful and they have done lots of legwork to see if we can make it happen....so stay tuned for details to see if the City will let us do it!

So start planning to do FLORIDA around August 20-22 NOW!!! More details coming soon....

What's the problem? Florida is away from Chicago. Come to the event & you'll be away.

What happen to this thread. It was unpinned and missing a LOT of posts!
