First off, I want to apologize for posting this so late (I was having internet connection issues). It was about this time yesterday that 9 NJ/NY SDers met at Arthurs Landing on the Hudson River to meet all of those zany characters they had met on SD, without neoprene or dive gear but as themselves! So without further ado, I present my HH report of that fateful night when we would hear the terms "mafia divers," "group sex," "nothing is as buoyant" and "freedom fries." Sadly, I cannot report that there were safety sausages inflated or divers in the Hudson (darn, I was hoping!), but I can report that the group assembled last night was the most interesting, fun, cool group of divers that I have had the privilege to meet, befriend and enjoy drinks, food and conversation with! They are who made the 1st NJ/NYC area SD HH a smashing success!

Thanks and cheers to those who attended from all across NJ/NY (in order of appearance):

Dave aka nyc-diver
Ellen aka Fairybasslet
Jemiah (me!) aka got_air?will_dive
Steve aka sjkocis
Ray aka Latitude Adjustment
Steve aka Geek
Monte aka BubbleBoy
Mark aka solodiver in nj
Jeff aka sparky103

I've posted the photo gallery with individual pics of the attendees that I'd taken. What a handsome bunch!

After we all arrived and were seated and had ordered the 1st round of drinks, we were all easily getting to know each other and were discussing a myriad of topics. But the one defining factor which had united all of us in one place on a Saturday night (instead of doing other exciting things--yeah right!) was that we were all cool, avid divers who lived locally and wanted to dive with other fun like-minded buddyless divers--soon!

So I had to detract from the fun for a moment to discuss the only order of business: what to do for our next NJ/NY area SD HH, where to dive and what social activities to include. I believe we have settled on an outing to Dutch Springs, PA, in mid-July to dive all day, including a night dive, and camp out overnight! What better prospect of fun could be had than with wet divers after a night dive, dinner on the grill, BYOB, and a tent with 3 other of your new friends?! I don't think there's anything local that can top that!!

Also, thanks to everyone for indulging in my informal polls. They allowed me to get a sense of how varied our NJ/NY HH group truly was! Disclaimer: A few in the sample group had a few drinks in them, so not all results will be indicative of factual responses. Respondees will remain anonymous to salvage their dignity.

Last night truly was a fun and memorable experience. The water and the NYC skyline provided such great ambience. The food was as always very delicious. There were 3 softshell crab BLT orders! The diversity of the bunch was fantastic! Drinks ranged from red and white wine to pina coladas and Coronas. Our waiter, Aaron, was such a sport with taking repeated group pictures, since we wanted to get the skyline in the background just right. It just so happens that he is a native Houstonian and also a scuba diver. He even showed us his c-card. So we even recruited a new member to join SD to boot! We all were so enjoying ourselves, even after Geek had to leave, that we didn't notice that more than 4 hours had gone by! The sun began to set and the moon began to rise among the skyscrapers. It's no wonder why we hadn't noticed the time--the view and those admiring it. What a magnificent ending to the first of many NJ/NYC area SD HHs!

I so much enjoyed having Ellen there as my cohort in mischief and to provide the non-PC highlights of the evening. I found in her a new shopping buddy. I also found a sailing buddy and a cycling buddy! Birds of a feather flock together! Speaking of birds, at around 9PM, as we were exiting the restaurant, there was a group of geese and goslings crossing the driveway on their way toward the Hudson. I ran to take a picture, as did Ellen, but when I turned around, everyone was making their way toward their cars. So I didn't get to say good-bye properly. I hope everyone will forgive me for not giving a better farewell. Good-bye, divers!

At least I know I will see all of you again at the next monthly NJ/NYC area SD HH. I am confident that showing how much fun we had last night and how interested we are in SD, in having fun, and in diving together--locally and beyond, will entice those SDers who couldn't make it to the first HH to come to future HHs and that our contingent will steadily grow. Perhaps we'll give the SD Houstonians a run for their money!

It was indeed a great pleasure meeting all of you. I can't wait to see my new friends again, wet or topside!

Best,

Jemiah

WOW! You all are off to a great start...and yes the scenery was truly amazing...oh yes...the skyline wasn't bad either! :lmao:

I will work with you all on the August date as I'm thinking I might be able to sneak up there then! Sounds like we'll have the group built up to quite the following by then!

Gotair?_WillDive and SoloDiver in NJ and to everyone who helped or participated....I think you all did a wonderful job! And I am thrilled that you recruited a new member for us!

The DFW group did a HH last night as well and come to find out the waiter's brother is a diver and the waiter is going to be learning soon so we also recruited 2 new members! :)

It sounds like you all had a wonderful evening...how you found out so much about the members is mind boggling to me!

I can't wait to see more pictures...looks like the gals were a bit outnumbered...but I know that Jemiah and Ellen were quite capable of keeping up!!!

Can't wait for more reports! -ww

How could a fine establishment like that not serve Molson Golden...?

Jemiah, you did a great job setting this up!

It was nice to meet everyone.
