Megalodon Teeth...8 Million years old and OTHER prehistoric teeth/fossils a whopping 40-60 Million years old!!! Find them diving the Cooper River, SC August 25-27, with an optional EXTRA day of diving Aug. 28th 2006!!

Join this exciting and rare diving excursion arriving in Charleston, SC where you'll take a quick shuttle to the Clarion Inn (quite a piece of military history in and of itself!) get settled in and prepare to do 4 one hour dives...yes 4 full (1) hour dives looking for Megalodon Shark Teeth ranging from 4-6 inches across as well as other prehistoric teeth, fossils, pottery and exciting finds in the famous Cooper River. The Cooper River, once part of the ocean is a hotbed of history and we can experience this unique diving opportunity with one of the most renown dive operators on the River. River diving is quite an art...many operators will dive the river every weekend where due to tides you can only get 2 dives in during the day. Off the Wall Diving Charters our dive operator picks only the weekends where the tides will let you get in 4 dives up to one hour each in! In other words, twice the opporunity to find teeth for the same price as everyone else! And knowing the river like Bill aka OTWDiver, owner of OffTheWallDiving.com, he will safely put us on the rich gravel beds full of teeth, guide us to the transition points where new teeth are being uncovered and share with us new spots that he is continuosly exploring so that we too can find these rare precious artifacts and LOTS of them! Don't miss this great opportunity limited to the first lucky 12 divers to do this unique and adventourous dive! And look for some special offers for ONLY SD members that OTWDiver will be offering us! Don't delay...usually only 6 people can go but we've worked out a special arrangement with OffTheWallDiving to do two boats! Everyone is getting in on the excitement...see what Sharkdiving Magazine has to say about their first shark tooth expedition...

We are excited to offer our first Cooper River Megalodon teeth shark tooth hunting trip! While we normally search out the live animals...no shark adventure would be complete without exploring the grand daddy of them all...the Megalodon!

Cooper River, SC Megalodon Shark Tooth & Artifact Hunting Trip for $655* d/o "Fly In" or $605* d/o "Drive In" (has one less night hotel) plus air/transport to Charleston, SC.(less $25 discount if paid in full by June 25, 2006) and (see me for help on air fare rates) you'll have a once in a lifetime opportunity to find Megalodon teeth, 1800 century bottles, Arrow Heads, and more! The Cooper River trip is limited to 6 people so don't delay! Note: You can also do an EXTRA day of diving on August 28th for $150 which includes hotel and diving...see below for details!

TEMPS & CONDITIONS:

The weather in South Carolina is remarkably consistent all summer and perfect for this kind of diving. The temperatures range in the mid to high 80's during this time of year and the water temps are in the mid 80's making this truly diving in comfort! (The water temps are already 81 degrees!)

AIRFARE:

We'll fly into Charleston, SC which is where the Cooper River is located. Alternately you can fly into Columbia, SC which is a 1.5 hr drive or Atlanta but it is a 6 hr drive or you can fly into Greenville Spartenburg but that is approx a 3 hr drive. We'll be using domestic carriers so for a small fee we'll make your arrangements for you otherwise you are more than welcome to make your own arrangements.

ARRIVAL:

Please plan to be in Charleston by 7:30 pm if you want to do a group dinner the night before. Otherwise we'll see you at breakfast at 6am the next morning in the hotel restuarant!

Great! We'll add you to the 'check's in the mail list'!!!

This trip will be awesome! Does your 11 year old have a junior certification? And are you comfortable with him diving in night time conditions? Or do you plan to tether him to you if he joins you?

My eleven year old has expressed an interest in diving. Last August he went to the keys with me for lobster season and attempted to snorkel for lobster. After ensuring there were no sharks, barracuda or piranah in the river, he ultimately decided to wait another year...

On a more serious note, I did have some questions reference the trip:
1. Since there are four dives per day, do we need 4 sets of tanks or is there a fill station on the boat?

2. Would love to have some information about the lights you recommend.

3. Based on the water temperature and the river characteristics, what size suit should we wear if any? Is there a thermocline that keeps the water clear?

4. I assume we need gloves to look for the teeth in the rocks?

Sorry for asking so many questions...

Great questions! And thank you...(here I thought I put everything PLUS the kitchen sink into that first post!) :birthday:

1. Since there are four dives per day, do we need 4 sets of tanks or is there a fill station on the boat?

Yes we'll take 4 tanks per person with us. We'll do all our surface intervals and lunch on the boat!

2. Would love to have some information about the lights you recommend.

Off The Wall Charters has put together a really cool "Shark's Teeth River Ratting" kit for us. It contains knee pads, gloves, collection bag, river pick, stickers and a "How to Find Megalodon Teeth & Other Fossils in the Cooper River" dvd. They have also developed a light kit add-on that is really cool starting from a hand-held LED going to a canister style with rechargeable battery style light. These will be posted shortly. All SD members will receive a discount for being a member...'membership DOES have priviledges'!

3. Based on the water temperature and the river characteristics, what size suit should we wear if any? Is there a thermocline that keeps the water clear?

Water temps are 81 this past Father's Day weekend and will be closer to 84 or 85 by the time we are diving. You should wear some thermal protection as we are in a river and you may brush up against a log or and you'll need protection on your knees from holding your position against the current while looking for teeth. The flow of the current keeps the river clear...dark...but clear!

4. I assume we need gloves to look for the teeth in the rocks?

Yes you will need gloves. You can get the "River Ratting" kit or bring your own.

Both trips will be cool...but this will need a few girls to help me...seems that finding prehistoric shark teeth seems to be predominately a male endeavor...you'd be the perfect 'angel' to help me corral all those boys! :tears:

Hay dad +2 (.5),
I think you will need to join us to see how well you do. The kids will love to have you bring them something. They will have the way coolest thing on Friday's show and tell. It is not every kid that has a 8 million year old Fossil in his pocket.
And the ladies will hands down love your pickup line at the bar. They can't refuse the chance to hold your fossil. :thankyou:

Hey Ladies... :thankyou:

I know you might think that diving the Cooper River is a guy thing, but you are wrong. I've seen thousands of divers looking for teeth in the 20+ I have been diving the Cooper. I have first hand knowledge the ladies will "out find" the guys everytime. Its kinda like the breathing rate thing, try as they might, men don’t do as well as women. Being a guy myself, my theory is that guys don’t have the ability to multitask that women have. They do well to hold a light, breathe, and crawl up stream. I will wager 3:1 on women finding more teeth, the biggest teeth and the smallest teeth; not to mention the most unique artifacts. Any wagers? :wakawaka: I know the guys will have issue with these words but we will see on the trip. I only need to have a few ladies to make this experiment work. So trust in yourself and help me prove a point to the girls that don’t think they have what it takes. (You can ask the Wench...she found numerous treasures on her first dives!) :wakawaka: It doesn’t take a sledge hammer and chisel to recover the best artifacts, it only takes the ability to multitask and focus. Here is your chance to bring home the trophy. And guess what? The guys will just have to accept it! :o
