Hmmm, then again, maybe it is the sleeping alone thing... who knows...

12 midnight (RING RING RING) I groggily grope for the phone.
My son: "Mom, can you unchain the front door. I'm not sleeping over Michele's house afterall because she didn't get permission from her parents."
Me: "Huh? OK." Stumble to living room, unlock the chain, but I don't put on the lights. Go back to bed and shut my door. Then I start to wonder "How will I know he's home if I can't see that the living room light has been shut off." Drift off to sleep. Wake up. Get up to see if he's home. See the light under his door. Knock. He says come in.
Me: "Oh you're home." I say the most profound things in the middle of the night. See he's eating the rest of the blueberry pie (Sorry Dr. Bill). He says something back that I can't remember. I go back to sleep, glad that he's safe at home.
4 a.m.
Bert (one of my cats) "MEOW"
Me: "SHUT UP"
6 a.m. "MEOW"
Me: "SHUT UP."
yada yada yada

1. Turn off Ringer after 10pm
2. Don't chain door
3. Fire Michele immediately
4. Hide pie in textbook so it can't be found
5. .357 for cat. Alarm silenced.
TADA!! Good night's sleep!

As for the cat, well, kitties will be kitties. Just the joys of being owned by a four legged creature. My dog helps to add to that chaos!

LOL! I agree with PF. I also turn the ringer off on the phone in my room at night. I keep my cell in my room for emergencies.

LOL. that might work but I shut off my cell at night because I seem to get more wrong numbers on that thing than on my house phone.
Anyway, I figure in one more year, he'll be away at college. Out of sight...out of mind? Not really but at least he won't be calling me to open the door.
As for the cats, I guess they bring more joy than pain, but I keep a water pistol handy.

Seven hours normaly works for me and I wake up at 5am no matter what time I go to bed although that tends to slip on dive trips, especially if some of the SD ladies have been trying to teach me to dance and keeping me up late
